I would like to add to all the other many reports, positive and not so positive, on Uniway. I am one of the many unlucky people who ruined their good credit rating on Uniway. First of all, I must say that while some of the positive reports sound great, these people fail to mention exactly what great deals they got for all their money spent on membership fees. They only say that they were not ripped off and that they are happy.
I personally feel that my husband and I were ripped off. We really didn't have the cash for the membership at the time we went as we were expecting our first child. We did end up joining due to the high pressure tactics of "Now or Never" salesmanship. Almost as soon as we made the hour trek back home we knew we had made a mistake. We had already signed the contract and they still ran our check even though we called the next morning and spoke to a representative and cancelled our membership.
Remember, we were supposed to have 30 days. I didn't hear anything else for a few months from Uniway. The next thing we know, we are getting threatening letters in the mail and they are on my credit report! I went so far as to get in touch with Nightline on NBC about Uniway and they called us back but I had just had my son and didn't want to go on television at that time.
Stupid of me I know. I regret not taking the call back. And though we would have probably brought some negitive attention to Uniway, I doubt I would be able to clear my credit. The only thing I would tell people, even those who say they are happy with Uniway, is this, if a salesperson doesn't want to give you time to think about it, it is probably because they know you wouldn't buy into it if you did.
This happened to me about 3 and a half yrs. ago and I have just had to live and learn. I am currently awaiting my seven yrs. to be up so it will hopefully come off my credit. What really makes me sick is that we got NOTHING from this company. Infact we GAVE them 150.00 yet they have almost ruined my credit. And it isn't because I "didn't pay a bill". I did try to cancel. They would not allow it!!! So, to any of those "satisfied" customers, you got lucky, We were ripped off!

you just keep shopping retail

No Lora,
I don't work for Uniway. But it's its obvious, that you aren't intelligent enough to understand the company. They have been in business fro yrs and will continue to do so... So keep on making your totally untrue remarks and they will go on...
May you should take them up on the offer and show Gary you did everything correctly, and they still put it on your credit report...
And at no time has it ever been a 30 day cancellation period. Ans no I'm not a wife of an employee.. I'm a MEMBER and I'm happy to be one.
So you just keep shopping retail and paying for everyones new homes while you struggle to pay you car payment beuse you had to buy a new refrigerator at retail for twice the money.....

Obviously another employee of Uniway....

You are obviously another employee of Uniway or married to an employee, whatever. This bs has finally come off my credit so I am not really concerned with this company anymore except to tell ppl to watch themselves with them. Actaully I might as well have been held at gun point in my mind.
This slime ball used the fact that I was pregnant to get to me promising all these discount baby items and then when I told him, " but Mr. Slimeball, I really don't have the money at this time. Can I join later?" I was told, " No you cannot. You must join now or never." And yes I made a bad decision with that but you learn with age and I now know that a reputable company should not suggest you must make out a check now or never again have the chance to be a member.
If you value your customers or potential customers you should welcome ppl in when it is financially convienent for them. My posts w/ this forum and experience with this company was quiet a bit ago and I have been working in a business for quite a while since so I have learned a lot about good business relations.
Regarding Uniway of Florence giving away a car, well, even scam companies have to anti-up at some point or face being shut down for the crooks they are. Please, employess of Uniway, stop trying to change the minds of those of us who have dealt with your rude and tricky salespeople. You are wasting your time.
And of course you would fall back on the old, " no one held you at gun point." Isn't that what criminals that scam ppl out of thousands of dollars say when they are caught? " I didn't force them to give me their life savings." Nice try.

Unwiay Work's...they just gave away a PT cruiser...the sales pitch, it work's.

Okay,
People. Look up Uniway Of Florence. You will
see that they just gave away a PT cruiser...
So you see the car's do exist. You go on a chance. We are all adult's. (Lora?) Did you not have a chance to walk away? They didn't hold you at gun point and make you sign the contract? You have a right to say no. Remember?
No matter the sales pitch, it work's. If you use Uniway and take the time to learn how. You can use it to your full advantage. The staff at Uniway are working people just like you.
Go to the service center, take some time to learn how to save money.
You may not save 50% on a toaster. But did you really think you would??
I have been a member at the Rock Hill location for about 5Yr's. And I have been pleased with my membership. No I haven't saved money on everything. But I never thought I would. As far as all of the Lie's posted here they will stay in business and continue to save people money. And as far as the Walmart comment. Look again. And by the way. I was told if I want to shop at Walmart go ahead. they don't sale Walmart product's. And they tell you that.
You got three day's to cancel. If you cant make a decision within that time period. That's not the staff's problem. You are a adult. so make a informed decision. Call the staff, go see them and get the true fact's. The Rock Hill staff has always been honest and caring about me. And I have formed a great relationship with them.. AND I HAVE SAVED MONEY in the process..
So be smart.
Don't come crying to the ripoff report, When you don't pay your bill. If you didn't want the membership you should of just said NO..
And the three day contract is Legal.
You had your chance and you lost it. So please do everyone a favor and just shut up!!!!!!!!!

Question for the employee of Uniway!?
AUTHOR: Lora - (U.S.A.)

And by the way, I just thought of a very important question for the employee of Uniway. If I only have 3 days to change my mind about the contract and I have to mail my request to be released, how am I susposed to get the request to Uniway in 3 days. Even if the very day I signed the contract I changed my mind, there is no way I could get a letter there in 3 days. So actually, you do not have 3 days. You have about 1, which is the day you sign the contract seeing as the postal mail takes about 2-3 days to deliver depending on the time of day you mail the letter and how far it has to go. Yes, your company is definitely a scam operation! If you are only going to give people 3 days to change their mind, you need to have a number people can call. Oh, by the way, when we called to cancel, we were not told we had to send a letter or we would have in a minute. Stop treating people like idiots!

Response to Uniway employee
AUTHOR: Lora - (U.S.A.)
SUBMITTED: Wednesday, March 05, 2003
While I donot plan on going back and forth with the people at Uniway here on this site, I would like to respond to the person who is employed by Uniway and made a comment to my first complaint.
First of all, only companies who try and rip people off would be at this site looking to defend themselves.
I doubt seriously you would see a legit company such as Walmart on here looking to see who is talking about them. Secondly, if Uniway is such a reputable company in Greenville, why is it that the salesperson told me that no one knows who they are or what they do in that building. I was told that only "select" people are invited to participate.
Third, what reputable company tells you that you cannot sleep on a decision such as theirs? What reputable company that is sure of their product tells people that they cannot opt to join later down the road if they donot have the money at this time? Trust me folks, these people are high pressure saleman. We were obviously not thinking clearly when we went to see these people. Oh, and let me not forget the very thing that makes me smack my self in the head to this day, when the salesman took us on a tour, he showed us a room that had black binded books all about the room.
There was a man sitting in there looking at one of these books. The salesman tried to open the door so we could see the catalogs for ourselves to see how much we would be saving with Uniway. The door was locked! He said," hmm. That's funny. This door is susposed to be unlocked." Then we moved onto the next area. I should have wisened up then. I mean, was the guy in the room locked in? Could he not open the door? He never even looked up and acknowledged us trying to get into the room.
No, the answer is that he is a plant to make it seem people are shopping with them. Nothing more. If you or I had been in that room, we would have opened this "locked" door for a salesman. Hey, these Uniway robots can get on here and defend their product all they like, facts are they are looking to keep a job.
We are the ones who suffer due to a moment of lapse in judgement. And I am obviously not the only person who is of this opinion. There are several people in different states that agree with me.

employees need to be taught better buisness skills
AUTHOR: NATASHA - (U.S.A.)

I recently came across the scam of the key in the mail to win the PT Cruzier at the Macon,Ga Uniway, but I am one of those lucky ones who didn't fall into their trap.
The man seemed real nice at first, and told me and my husband it would take about 45 minutes and we didn't have to buy a thing. The only reason we were there was to try to win a car. Well we are 24 and 25 so he thought we were easy targets I guess.
After about an hour and ten minutes of a bunch of lies, I new I wasn't interested, we went into his office and he shut the door. He finally showed us the cost to join and that he would step out and let us think about it. He kept talking and before he could leave so it wouldn't take any longer to get out of there, I told him that we didn't have the money. That's when he got rude. He couldn't believe I had made a decision without talking to my husband that I was very rude, and his wife wouldn't ever do that to him.
I told him that I pay the bills and know we couldn't afford it. He kept ridequling me and didn't want to hear anything i had to say. I don't know why I let him hurt my feelings but he really did, I was very upset and trying to fight back my tears. The whole time he seen how upset I was and just kept talking never apologizing or saying Iam sorry.
I can't even remember everything he said after because I was so upset. As we were leaving he took my husband to the portable ignition for the fake car and I kept walking to the car. The place is not just a ripoff but their employees need to be taught better buisness skills and treating customers better.
sorry to all who were scamed

Response to Lora

Dear Sirs;
It is very clear to me that Lora did not read the contract she signed at Uniway. Had she read the contract she had three days in writing to cancel her contract no questions asked. Also she would have recieved a full refund of any monies paid. Lora states that they called to cancel. The agreement that they signed asks that they submit the request in writing. Uniway has been in Greenville for almost 30 years. We service thousands of members in the area. As Lora stated there are many positive letters about us. Her problem was not that we didn't perform our service. She never used it. Her problem was we asked her to live up to the agreement she signed as we were willing to do. Uniway is offering her the opertunity to show us anything that shows we didn't honor our agreement. Including a copy of anything showing that they sent us a cancelation letter postmarked within three days of the date they joined which was all they needed to do. Uniway will be happy to correct any credit reports.
Sincerly
Gary Mitskoff
