The owner Michael Taylor has had 7 complaints filed with the BBB.  Of those, he has not even responded to 3. He now has 8 since another was just filed.  He doesn't seem to care in the least as he feels that he can rip off the consumer, treat them with the worst customer service we've ever experienced, and basically tell them to get lost.  He doesn't seem at all worried about breaking the 'competition act' laws or others since he seems to have been down this road before given his track record with BBB where he is rated 'F'. This is public records, so I'm not worried about putting it in print.

Since being ripped off I have done some investigating of my own and found tha he was the owner of Showcase Furniture which was recently liquidated at the same location.  He has opened another furniture store under a new name "Uptown Furniture" in the same store he formally occupied in Newmarket Ontario.  At his opening weekend, he held a special opening weekend sale.  He displayed regular and sale prices on all the furniture for this weekend sale.  After checking the marketplace, I have learned (through 4 other stores in the area) that the 'regular marketplace price' of the identical furniture is priced equal to or less then what he advertised as his advertised Grand Opening sale prices.  The owner misrepresented the price of the furniture by grossly inflating the regular price by almost 50%. This contravenes the federal competition act.  This unfair business practice of deceptive pricing was used to convince the consumer that they are purchasing furniture at a significant discount to what they will find if they contact all stores in the area selling the identical furniture (Ashley).

He also sells warranties at an additional cost that voids the manufacturer's warranty (Ashley).  When asked a few days following the sale if he was aware of this at the time of the sale, he said that he is.  He failed to provide a copy of either the manufactuer's warranty nor the extended warranty claiming to not have them in the store.  Without full disclosure (warranty), he should not be selling the warranty as the consumer does not have the opportunity to read and understand what they are purchasing.  Why would he not at least have a 'store copy' for the consumer to review I wonder?  Or did he not want the consumer to learn about the clause relating to voiding of the manufacturer's warranty?

He refuses to cancel the contract and give a refund even though called immediately upon learning about the unfair business practices, inflated pricing and non disclosure of important warranty information.  He does not seem at all concerned that this has been reported to the BBB (for which there are previous complaints filed against him), the Consumer Protection Bureau and the Canadian Competition Bureau.

Is there a reporter who would like to investigate this company and investigate pricing etc. independently so that consumers are protected going forward from this type of unfair selling practice?
