U.S. Auto Sales in Okinawa is a used car company that sells used cars to the United Stated Military in Okinawa. Some of the cars have been in accidents but they fake the car and auction facts. Shiko pays about $1000 dollars per car. He sells that same car for $6000 or $7000 to young kids from the military. He makes a huge profit on cars that should be in a junk yard. He sells the cars to the G.I.'s then finances them with his friend's company. The soldiers end up paying around $600 a month for the cars.

Shiko only pays his employees minimum wage plus a $50 commission for every car sold. He is pocketing all the profit for himself. Also he is not using a bank because he is hiding money from the tax office.

I have personally seen him spay WD-40 on brake rotors because the brakes needed to be changed but he didn't want to pay to fix it even though it was covered by the warranty.

He also over charges G.I.'s for car repairs. Most of the time he charges about 3x the amount. If you try to get your car fixed while it is under warranty he will try to deny that there is any problem. Mostly U.S. Auto Sales targets the new arrival soldiers because they don't know anything about Japan. He gets them to over pay for the cars, repairs, insurance, and then won't honor the warranty.

Do not buy a car from U.S. Auto Sales on route 58 in Okinawa. The owner, Shiko, is a thief! He also only has a visitor's visa in Japan. He is completely illegal here.

I Love my HRV

AUTHOR: Mark - (Japan)

POSTED: Sunday, January 17, 2010

I recently purchased a used 2000 Honda HRV from US Auto Sales in Okinawa.  I looked at a number of other dealerships in the area, but decided on getting the HRV from US Auto Sales.  This was mostly beause they seemed to know their cars better than some other places and the service was better.

I was looking for a car with a GPS and most of the other dealers where I went, if the car had a GPS then it either didn't work or they didn't have the CD/DVD for it.  This irritated me as it seemed that they assumed since I was an American that I wouldn't be able to read Japanese (which I can) an thus wouldn't care about the GPS.  A Japanese dealer would never try to get away with this.  Also, the HRV I bought from US Auto Sales had all the manuals with it.  Few other cars I looked at did.

My sales rep was David Tucker.  He was very helpful and likeable.  He gave me his full attention and did his best to answer all my questions.  Some of the other places I went to barely seemed to acknowledge me.  Shiko (the owner) was also very nice to me and eager to make me happy with my purchase.  They even let me take it for a test drive which most other places wont let you do.

Some things to note:  US Auto Sales only offers a 90-day waranty while most other places give a full year, but I was able to negotiate for a 180-day waranty.  I would suggest anyone else to do the same.  Also, the car had 90,000+ kilometers on it so they were good to change out the timing belt for me.

About a week after I bought it I noticed a rubbing noise from the front right wheel.  My mechanic told me that a ball-joint on the strut needed to be changed.  I took the car back to US Auto Sales and they changed it out at no charge and had it back to me the next day.  It also needed a new wheel bearing, but I changed that out on my own dollar ($190).  US Auto Sales may have changed it for free if I had asked them, but I wanted my own mechanic to do the work.  Since these few small repairs I have been very happy with my HRV.

Overall, my experience at US Auto Sales was a good one and I doubt that much of what is written in the original report is true.  It is no secret that these cars are bought at auction and then fixed up and sold, but that is how they all make money.  US Auto Sales is no different I'm sure.  I would recommend anyone to take a look at US Auto Sales (among other places) and talk to Dave.  They might have what you are looking for.
