Recently Downey Savings and Loan was taken over by US Bank. I am so angry with them right now. One of their spokes men Dale, said that nothing would change and that every costumer would remain doing the same transactions. Well, he was wrong! When I oppend an account with Downey Savings I left Washington Mutual because of the non sufficiant funds fees. I was a teenager then, and was charged over draft fees for money i didn't have in the bank account. When I came to downey savings one of their policies was that if there wasn't any money in the account and you went to use your debit card they wouldn't let you take money out. It was perfect for me, and I got used to it. Well, here I am ten years later and all of a sudden I was being charged over withdraw fees.

Why? I asked myself all these years I've been doing so well. Well, US Bank took over downey Savings and loans around July. Well I have two small children, and my husband was recently laid off work, and I work part time as a waitress.  So things get kinda crazy when I'm shopping and the easy way to pay for something for me is by using my debit card. O.k. so I estimated about hundred bucks just deposited my check. Get the kids to take a nap go online, checked my statement and OH MY GOSH! One hundred and Thirty dollars in bank fees. Every day that I've been using my card they let the purchace go threw. Not only did i have cash in my pocket since I am a waitress, I now owe the bank $200. Dollars!!! They charged me $8.00 a Day for every day my account is negative, and allowed me to use my DEBIT card. Not VISA, DEBIT card??? WHAT? I asked myself.. Then i look at the statement and out of the $200. in fees I only spent about 5 dollars. Wow so my $5. in ice cream costed me $195. why??? what am i being punnished for? I never remember downey savings doing this? is this legal? what a rip off.

I don't know what to do I'm freaking out I have rent due in about a day. My bank is negative $200. and my husbands unemployment check will be held for four days with us bank on top off the fees they will charge us out of the check. Can any one explain to me why I am being ripped off??? Well I got to go to work right now I really hate us bank and hope no one ever banks with them and anyone who does shouldn't. oh and when i called the lady at the bank she told me there was nothing she could do and that i should manage my money better.

Wow is right, Law. I'm so sick of people b!tching about how the bank screwed them over when they tell everyone that they purposely went beyond their balance. Grow up, losers.

Wow.Talk about incriminating yourself.

Let's review some of the author's own words, shall we?

"When I opened an account with Downey Savings. I left Washington Mutual because of the non sufficiant funds fees."

Point: Ok, so apprently you have a history of not paying attention to your account balance. Nice.

"So things get kinda crazy when I'm shopping and the easy way to pay for something for me is by using my debit card. O.k., so I estimated about hundred bucks because I just deposited my check."

Point: ESTIMATED? Seriously? How hard would it have been to actually check your balance before you used your card? I guess your busy lifestyle doesn't allow you 30 seconds to check it on their 24-hour phone line, an ATM, a branch, or the internet, huh?

"I called the lady at the bank and she told me there was nothing she could do and that I should manage my money better."

Point: I don't blame the "lady at the bank" one bit. You paint the picture of someone who routinely ignores their balance. Why should the bank refund the fees? You shot yourself in the foot; repeatedly I might add.

"I never remember Downey Savings doing this. Is this legal? What a rip off! I don't know what to do. I'm freaking out I have rent due in about a day. My bank is negative $200."

Point: You ignore your balance, so I guess it's pretty safe to say that you didn't read the terms and agreement booklet that was sent to you when US Bank took over Downey Savings either. If you'd have taken the time to read it, maybe you wouldn't have INTENTIONALLY overdrawn your account. Notice the sign on the outside of the bank? It doesn't say "Downey Savings" on it anymore, now does it? How could you not expect some changes?

You, my friend, are a classic example of someone who should not have a bank account. If you're not going to be vigilant with it, save yourself the headache; close the account and use cash only.
