EVERY WEEK MY CHECK IS DIRECT DEPOSITED INTO THE BANK ON

MONDAY'S. THIS BANK HAS THE WIRE ON MONDAY - POST MY

CHECKS AND THEN POSTS THE DEPOSIT. I HAVE HAD THIS

ACCOUNT FOR SEVERAL MONTHS WITHOUT A PROBLEM, HOWEVER ON

THE 24TH OF FEBRUARY THEY GOT THEIR CHANCE AND POSTED

$84.40 IN WITHDRAWALS THEN POSTED MY CHECK ON THE

MORNING OF THE 25TH (AROUND 4AM) AND THEN TOOK THEIR

OVERDRAFT CHARGE OF $120.00. TO DATE, THEY HAVE PUMPED

$557.00 IN O/CHGS AND THEY ALSO CHARGE A NEGATIVE

BALANCE FEE - WE ARE TALKING 10 BANKING DAYS WHICH IS

COSTING ME AN AVERAGE OF $60.00 PER DAY. I HAVE EMAILED

THE MANAGER OF THE BANK TAMMY KREGER TO NO AVAIL. THERE

HAS TO BE SOME SORT OF REGULATIONS OUT THERE I CAN CALL

UPON. ANYONE ABLE TO HELP OUT THERE...MY FAMILY IS VERY

HUNGRY! THANK YOU, SHERI

Quite dramatic....

AUTHOR: Edgeman - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Sunday, October 19, 2008

Isn't it a little dramatic to claim that the bank "robbed" people?

I have banked with US Bank for nearly two years. Why haven't they "robbed" me? I don't keep tens of thousands of dollars in my checking account. In fact, there have been instances when I brought my balance down to less than $2. They aren't sticking me with overdraft fees. Why is that?

Because I simply do not overdraft my account. I don't continue to spend when my account balance is low and I do not attempt to float transactions. I only have one automatic payment set up and I arranged it for several days after payday so that I know that the funds are available.

Checking accounts require that you do some work in order to maintain an accurate balance. If you're not willing to do that work, then you may be better off with a savings account and one of those prepaid credit cards. Either way is better than paying out hundreds or thousands of dollars in OD fees every month.

i work at a bank and from what i have read the bank is just following regulations.
whenever your direct deposit is posted at 4am whatever charges were made and
are debited from the account before the 4am will put u in negatives or will charge you the fee because, the funds were not available in the account the time the charges went through.

im a teller, im not a personal banker but, from working there i know this is correct i may not have worded it right so let me give u and explanation i gave a customer with the exact problem.

say your check posts at 4 am
but, you bought wendys or clothing or something the day before or maybe a few days before if the clothing food or whatever you bought posts even a minute before your check you do not have sufficient funds at that time to cover the amount of the purchase. therefore you are charged the over draft fee because, at that time like i said before you did not have sufficient funds in the account to cover it
even if its buy a minute a few seconds it is the way the system is and usually objects you have purchased will post at midnight and your check is posted at 4 am.

this however is not a problem with the bank but, some banking systems do vary.
you're having a problem with the system the bank is using and unfortunately that will not change because, one person does not understand the system.

your best bet is to sign up for online banking which should be posted on your banks website.
that way u can see if your transactions have been posted if not be sure to have enough money in the account before you make another purchase even if your check should be posting soon.

It Pays to Find Small Banks

AUTHOR: Michael - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Wednesday, July 30, 2003

I understand your frustration and experienced similar problems when I used to bank with the "big boys". Bottom line, find a small bank!
I've had numerous checks deposited late (ie. not in time to cover withdrawals), and because they knew the check would be arriving within a day or 2, they never charged any fees to my account. They very well could have, but they did't. Why?
because they like me. I took the time to develop repoire with the manager who opened my account. Almost all of the employees at my branch (about 12) know me on a first name basis, are very freindly, and even know details about my work/social life. I seriously doubt any employee at your branch of US Bank knows or even cares what you did last weekend, let alone your first name.

US Bank finally on the hot list!

AUTHOR: Sheri - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Sunday, June 29, 2003

I have eliminated this by choosing to bank elsewhere and each time I am asked by an employee to refer a "decent" bank I tell them not to go to USBank. I also refer them to this site so they can read the 2 pages of USBank's reports. There are thousands out there that go through what this bank has put me through without conscience and there will sadly be thousands more. No explanation on behalf of their employees can take the reality of bad business from surfacing. The bank I am with now and direct deposit funds into have that deposit in my account by 7am Monday mornings NOT TUESDAY as USBank practice was for me. Bottom line is shop for your bank, it's you hard earned money and this is just one example of how you can get ripped off big time. Take care and be careful - educate yourself and you can stay away from BAD BUSINESS. Thanks for listening

#2 UPDATE Employee

Meet with the bank...find out what really happened....

AUTHOR: Eric - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Friday, June 27, 2003

I must first begin by expressing that I am merely a retail employee of US Bank. I am neither authorized to speak on behalf US Bank nor do my personal opinions necessarily coincide with those of US Bank. That said

I understand your frustration, but your assertion is incorrect. US Bank ALWAYS posts credits before it posts debits within a single processing business day. If your payroll was posted on the 25th, then it is most likely that that is the business day in which they received it. Now, it would be silly for me to presume that the bank NEVER makes a mistake for indeed it does occur from time to time. However, in my 14 years of retail banking experience more often than not, the ACH (Direct Deposit) transaction was sent out late.

You said that you e-mailed the branch manager. I would suggest that you make an appointment to meet with her face-to-face. Perhaps a more detailed investigation can be conducted to confirm one way or the other. Our method of doing business is based significantly on customer relationships. I know it seems weird, but it would behoove ANY consumer to develop a relationship with their local branch. US Bank offers some great products at great rates and is worth staying with. Good luck!

It's become well known that banks selectivly debit checks and EFT's to their advantage.

AUTHOR: Chris - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Wednesday, March 12, 2003

This, along with "bounce" protection have become an attractive source of revenue for these banks.

You need to go down to the bank and explain your situation. Many times they will work with you on overdraft charges. Remember be polite. Additionally, I would suggest putting at least $20.00 in your account ($50.00 would be ideal) for your own cushion-assume this money is not there.

Good luck,
