For the last two days, my husband has received a phone call after playing a sweepstakes game.

The individual identifies himself as an employee of US Customs Service and states that they have confiscated two checks, each in the amount of $50,000.

The first day my husband said it was a scam and said he was going to report the company to the authorities and hung up.

The second day, the same call came in and my husband said, "Didn't someone call here yesterday and I told you that this was a scam and that I was going to report the call."

The person who called asked if he had "reported them" and my husband said no....

The individual then asked, do you want me to send you the checks or do you want me to send them back...so then he said to the guy, if you have checks on mine then send them to me, obviously you have my address if you have my phone number....and the guy hung up.

More info on the claimant who says he's with US Customs

AUTHOR: Tammy - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Wednesday, August 02, 2006

Today we received yet another call.
Today the gentleman said he was Office Ford with the IRS in Buffalo NY.

Stated his number is 905-325-8288 and is available from 7am - 3pm.

My husband happened to be at the chiropractor so I took the message. He said it was in regards to my husband's file. Nothing to worry about, but important.

We then called US CUSTOMS in Buffalo at 716-626-0400 and the officer stated that it is a scam they are running out of Ontario Canada and that we should not talk to this person.

She also stated ultimately they would ask for money.

We called Officer Ford's number back and it was a cell phone.

Steps we took today

Actually, my husband did call US Customs but today they said they couldn't help him because we did not know what customs office the person claimed to be calling from because he hung up after my husband requested the checks be mailed to him.

It was not my intentions to blame US Customs as I believe this is a group using a similar name to make the receipient of the call actually listen to them.

NEVER THREATEN what you will not do.

If your husband threatened the caller that he would call US Customs about this, then he SHOULD have called US Customs.

And the way this report is titled seems very unfair to US Customs, don't you think? Because it would seem obvious that the calls were NOT from US Customs....
