A man rang my doorbell, flashed a badge and wove wording into his fast-paced and angry spiel that would lead most people to believe that he and his group were a part of Con Ed.
He then demanded, yes DEMANDED, my Con Ed bill to "make sure I had price protection on it." After hearing the news that I didn't handle those matters and no one could help him, he copped the biggest attitude. I kindly offered a later time and he scrawled his name - James and id# on a generic form and practically threw it me.
I googled USESC and luckily read this site. Thanks Ripoff Report!
My street happens to have a good number of minorities so I went out to confront/question him. Fortunately for the both of us, it looked like he had no luck and saw him running off our street within the next 5-10 minutes!
Thanks again Ripoff Report!

One Day Wonder
AUTHOR: Noname - (U.S.A.)

I am a little upset with the whole process here.
First, most of those "scam artists" are people on the same side of the con. Do not hate these people. I was one of them. I am an honest hard working guy. I saw a whole back page ad in a reputable job mag.
This ad said "needed: energetic, enthusiastic, positive people, with good communication skills that would like the possibility to earn over $16.00 p/h representing our company, no exp needed, will train, benefits" AS you can see this is very ambiguous and vague. This means exactly what they want and tricks you to believe what you would want.
What did I think it meant? I could earn double the minimum wage with health and/or dental while doing simple work that they pay me for training. GRAAAVY YES!!!!
When I arrived, the "interview" is a joke, but they try to make it look some what formal with a "casualed down" atmosphere. Naturally I was a shoo-in. They tell me training starts Monday. The first day is very informative- outlines and hype, lots of talk about vacations to exotic places, lots of inside info on the gas industry. Good solid fast paced first day. I thought I was answering phones. GRAA-AAAVY!!!!!!!
THEN, on Tuesday's training thats when I find out we go door to door. WHAT??? They take our photo ID for our badge. OK... Then we start rehearsing "the spiel" telling us we need to SEEM like "service" agents but not tell the clients we are service agents. HUH? The info is FAST and REPETITIVE. We "learned" the first half of a script that I feel should take a few days. The whole training day took four hours.
Now, Wednesday was a true view of these guys. Our "class of 8" is now a class of 2. We learned the second half of "the spiel" but the "trainer" is busy doing everything but teaching us he was in the class for all of 2 out of the 4 hours. Then they bring me a US ENERGY hat that I have to buy and tell me I need to buy my own clipboard and a pair of navy blue pants as they give me my new badge. WHAT???? FINE!
Wait, It gets worse! Thursday my new "field trainer" Says ok lets go make some sales. WOW... wow. I'm not ready. They spent the day rehashing the training to sharpen me up for tomorrow. That was all of 2hrs. Then they say here is your official US ENERGY jacket. "Just sign here" *wait what is this I'm signing* "oh it is JUST a standard form stating we gave you your jacket." *I signed* "Great don't worry about payment... we'll take it out of your first check" EXCUSE ME?????
OK! Friday, Big Day!!! I meet up with my field trainer. He says "let's go," I say, *wait what about my paper work?* "What paper work?" *My W2's W4's those things* "OH, well you are an 'Independent Contractor' so just do your own papers. HOW CAN THIS GET ANY WORSE????
Here We Go- knocking on doors and scripting. After 100 houses he starts getting me to do some here and there. I stunk naturally. In time I was fumbling through good enough to get my own side of the street. "I could call for backup if need be......" He just left me in the dust and when he crossed over and circled back he says "ok good job today, from now on you are on your own." DUHHhhh-HUH? Oh and by the way you need to check in with me EVERYDAY so I can give my manager your numbers.
There ya are. 1) A Promise of Milk and Honey, 2) Organized chaos, 3) Unfulfilled and/or Empty Gestures, 4) A Lackluster At Best Training ...while trying to con you as an employee- eeer- 'Independent Agent' a term that means you are liable for any and everything going wrong... 5) Commissioned Pay- i.e. they make you work 7 days a week without salary ...isn't that the new form of slavery... OH!! and 6) that paid training is when you sell 20 units they give you a starting bonus, and the Benefit package is earn enough money they set you up with one of those group vacations.
