My wife's current Obamacare policy is ending at the end of 2017. Blue Cross Blue Shield is pulling out of our Georgia county. In a search for help in finding a replacement policy, possibly more affordable than thos offered on the government helathcare exchange I submitted a request for quotes through a website purporting to find insurance coverage for everyone. The next day I reeived a phone call from Mr. Devon Barteau of US Insurance Advisors. He said he was based in Florida and said he was a licensed insurance broker in Florida and Georgia.
Mr Barteau asked me a series of questions that revealed he was simply paging through the government's Helathcare.gov website to find policies, something I had already done numerous times. When I told him I knew what he was doing he told me he had access to other companies other than the ones appearing on the Healthcare.gov site. He began to expound on a company called Liberty Health. He said they offered short term policies with riders that effectively made them ACA compliant, including acceptance of pre-existing conditions. He was trying to rush me into signing up but he noted that my wife had to be present on the phone to answer some questions and she was not home at the time. I told him we would call him back when she returned. He agreed but first detailed how I would need to pay a $100 processing fee in addition to the first month's premium before I would be sent details of her policy. He assured me if we were displeased with the policy in any way we could cancel and all money paid would be refunded.
While waiting for my wife to return so we could make the return call to Mr. Barteau, began a web search for US Insurance Advisors and Liberty Health. I could find nothing about Liberty Health but did learn through ripoffreport.com that Liberty Health is a scam. I called Mr. Barteau back and told him I what I had discovered. He seemed taken aback and offered no explanation or rebuttal. I asked him for his broker's license number for the state of Georgia and he immediately hung up on me. I called his "office" back at 800-341-6573 and spoke with a female who is apparently a receptionist for US Insurnace Advisors. I asked if US Insurance Advisors had a website. She told me it was www.healthcare.gov! When I informed her that was not their website, that it was the government website she said they sell policies that appear on that website. She confirmed that US Insurance Advisors has no website itself. When I told her that Mr Barteau had tried to sell me a policy with a company that had been revealed to be a sham she very curtly told me I could take my business elsewhere and hung up on me!
Mr. Barteau falsely claimed that short term policy terms had been amended a few months ago by a presidential executive order that allows them to write policies with riders that match ACA requirements with unnecessary terms such as pregnancy coverage. As best I can determine through research on the State of Georgia Insurance Commisioner's website, that is untrue.
Thanks to ripoffreport.com for saving me and my wife lots of money and ultimate grief!
