  Problems were experienced here. We were a party of two and payment was done as one billing.

       Two lower bunks requested but only one was available on arrival although this was done in advance and the bed was taken by a guest without a bunk request. A room change was needed the next morning because of this and the extremely cramped windowless 4 bed room we were in, to a six bed room which was acceptable. The cramped room should have been specified as such and without a window.

       Advertised pancake breakfast on website was not provided. Manager decided to provide a 5 dollar rebate for this after first telling me they did not offer pancakes and asking me where on the website I saw it expecting me to waste my time looking for information I had already researched before coming to the hostel. In any event the $5.00 was only given to one of us even though I was paying for two guests. In either case I wonder where in the Gaslamp area of San Diego a $5.00 pancake breakfast was offered.

          I was forced to wear earplugs in the toilet while preparing for bed at around 9:30 PM because the music was so loud there. I wasted time having to inform the desk clerk of this.

        I asked for an adjustment and I assume the Manager Charlena thought it was funny to offer experienced travelers US $4.00 for the room and US $5.00, total of US $ 9.00. No place I have stayed at would do that type of BS to a customer.

        I gave the Manager ample opportunities to avoid a bad review situation. I even suggested that she not wait until social media and then try a "I'm sorry We did not know about concerns" routine. In addition the USA Hostels Headquarters sent a followup survey after the trip to which I responded on October 21, 2018 and guess what? They did not bother to respond to any of my points you just read above.

      Tripadvisor choose not to post this review as of December 12, 2018. I assume because they don't like negative reviews for their paying customers but this, like rapes at resorts, should be reported.
