I fell victim to egrigous business practices conducted by USA Movers INC in Rockville MD. Based upon a chain of emails and a phone conversation with Carlos, I was clearly led to believe that I would be paying $95 per hour for a move from one unit in my apartment building to another unit in the same apartment building. As expected, the time from "point A to point B" was 2 hours (4:30 to 6:30). Therefore, I expected my fee to be close to $190.

Upon the movers' arrival, one man had me sign a contract which covered the 95$ per hour fee. AFTER the contract was signed he added (on the contract) a $95 fee for "traveling." He said this included the time it took for the drivers to reach my apartment. I had never been informed of this fee, and it is not even vaguely indicated in the contract above. As I expressed my confusion, he exclaimed that this fee is stated the contract. I still am not clear where this is stated.

Because I had already been charged a $100 deposit, and was down to the last minute with regard to the time in which I needed to move, I had no other choice but to continue with these movers. AFTER I signed additional pages in the contract, the mover added additional charges for a 5$ "moving pad rent"  which he marked as a quantity of "5" which equated to $30. Also a $25 fee for TV box (even though I have my own boxes for the 2 TVS), and $18 for tape.

My total fee was $393. I was misled to think I would only be paying $190.00. The movers added fees after I signed the contract. The contract did not  indicate that I would be paying $100 for the movers to drive to my apartment. The contract did not indicate that I would need to "rent" standard items for a moving process. The movers became very sketchy when I asked who I could contact about the contract issues. They said Carlos was simply a "sales" person, but after a review of similar complaints by this company it is clear that Carlos is the manager of this fraudulent business.

You were stuck between a rock and a hard place, and, unfortunately, you didn't have much choice. But for those who are reading this and planning a move in the future, here's some advice based off years of experience and many (48) moves.

JUST SAY NO. Once the contract is signed, it can't be modified unless both parties agree and sign off.  When he tried to charge you travel time, just say no. Who gets paid to drive to work? You had your own box for the TV, so there was no reason to pay for theirs. Blankets ARE standard, so you shouldn't have had to pay for those.

If you're not clear about what's stated in the contract make him point it out.

I'm so tired of scammers. What is the world coming to? My guess is that if you had stood up to these fools they would've backed down. They were already there and going to make at least some money, so who knows?

I'm sorry this happened to you.
