A kid stopped by our home yesterday saying he was selling magazine subscriptions to win a trip to Cancun. I was a little leary at first - I guess I should have gone with that feeling. He was very young - college aged, I presume - and personable. I let my defenses fall and ended up paying too much for 2 magazine subscriptions. He had talked about being first in the contest and that in the past several years it had been won by girls - that he was rather proud of being in first place.

After he left, my husband (rather upset) said that I would never answer the door again. I decided to research the internet. I first found out that the company sponsering the contest had only been in business since November, 2003 (so much for the years of winners). I could not find anything else - nothing showed on a reverse phone number check, nothing listed in any business directory, etc. I called the "customer service" phone number listed on my receipt and got only a recording. With the time difference, they should have been opened according to the business hours stated in their message.

I was going to try cancelling the subscription but, from reading about how unsuccessful that was from others with the same sort of situation, I cancelled the check. I feel like a complete fool but don't want this happening to anyone else.

Dear "Anonymous",

I must dispute your claim that this is a "legitimate business". It is to bad you feel that you worked for such a great company when in fact it is little more than a scam based company that preys on individuals generosity and trust, usually the young and elderly.

A family member of mine has in fact, been ripped off by this company and I did "get the facts right" before making up my mind. I searched the internet and did a "google search" and did not just "trust the first thing that pops out". I also checked out the local BBB and the State Attorney Generals office.

The following data is directly from our local BBB:
"The BBB processed a total of 118 complaints about this company in the last 36 months, our standard reporting period. Of the total of 118 complaints closed in 36 months, 22 were closed in the last year."

I can only imagine that this is a minut fraction of people who have been ripped off by this company. There is no doubt that there are countless citizens out there that have been ripped off, but have not complained. They just ate the subscription and chalked it up to "experience". This is what a company such as this lives for.

It is rather amusing that you post your protest here when there are so many complaints from not only our local area, but from around the country regarding this company and it's many aliases.

I'm sure you must be very proud to have worked for such a company.

You should get the facts right before making up your mind about someone

I worked for this company from June 1998 to December of 2004. Not like every business I must say. I loved every bit of it. There really is a contest, young adults make do win trips to anywhere they want to go and can also make a decent living just like any sales job. PCCS was a huge organization that split in a few ways during that time.

The business is a legitimate as a cell phone store or a clothing store at the mall. The magazines are prices as any other item that you would buy. When you gave the money/check to the person that came to your door, you knew how much you were paying but you did it anyway, it was not a scam. This company is great! I would never trade the experience, opportunity and knowlegde I got here for anything in the world. Not even going to school and working a good 9-5 job is a rewarding. Many people don't understand but that is only because they have never seen that view.

I think that before someone starts accusing a company or judging anyone, you should find more than one source and weight them out. Anyone can google anything now this days but are you going to trust the first thing that pops out? Think about it...

Not palmetto, most of the other companies travel in big vans or large transportation vehicles

AUTHOR: Amanda - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Wednesday, June 22, 2005

I worked for USA (Universal Subscription Agency) and it is not PMA (Palmetto Marketing Agency) There are alot of different Mag Crews and alot of them run with about the same standards but most of them the only REAL difference is that they get paid differently. just to name a few there is USA, PMA, ACI (Atlantic Cirulation Inc.) Am-Press, PCCS (Pacific Coast Clearing Services)etc. they are all different companies and they are not other alias' for different companies. They are just all well known around Mag Crews because we run into them all the time and usually depending on the company but most of USA travels in Jeep's, Suburban's, Excursion's, and EXPEDITION"S

Not Palmetto

AUTHOR: Amanda - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Thursday, January 06, 2005

This is to let you guys know that this company is not Palmetto under a different name this is a totally different company. I know this because I worked for them under Nagangast Sales. I have friends that work for Palmetto also. Even though I hate this company I will say that they are not who you assume they are. I will say that the manager that I had was really not that bad but the rest of the people there suck. My manager was good to me till I wanted to leave for a visit home. I liked my manger much. I even almost dated him at first but I learned that all the guys wanted there was a piece of meat. The only one that was good was the guy that I dated there and he was different than the rest of the guys there. He is just to brained washed to leave the company. He is smarter than that but I think that alot of people stay cause they are scared or they are there for the many drugs that you run across there and believe me they are not hard to find on mag crew. Just please becareful of these people but do not blame the kids they are just doing what they feel they have to do to stay safe. They do not know that they are ripping people off. I did not know until I left that it was a rip off. To me it was an easy honest way to make money and have fun.
