The Verizon bill was the first indication we had been slammed and at a price - $15.38, by USBI. Verizon say that any phone company can send them an instruction to effect changes unless they have been previously instructed to refuse any changes without specific instructions from the phone account holder.

Verizon says that USBI in their unsolicited phone calls will get a Verizon subscriber to say yes once and then use that, irrespective of context, as authority to transfer service. Verizon says that there is nothing it, or any similar carrier, can do to prevent it.

I believe there is; implement a no change program for every account unless they first verify it with the customer. If the customer wants the change, they will be anxious enough to confirm the instruction.

Verizon and other major carriers are happy to impose their requirements on subscribers without a "by your leave" when it's to Verizons benefit; why can't they be as protective of the subscribers rights? Or is it again a self motivated profit cream off because they don't see protection of subscribers rights as a profit center, despite the indirect revenue it brings them through "protectionism".
