Client calls for service for his web based business "truthinscripture.com", when training is complete he doesn't pay.

Mark Kemp originally writes me about our ability to design a website for him. I wrote him back with a proposal, and showed him our list of many clients and a portfolio of our work.

He tells me that he is ready to sign up, and to come to his office to finalize the deal.

I go to his office, where his daughter is there waiting to ask me questions.

She is web-savvy, but has questions to fill some voids that she is missing. After about 2 hours of explaining how this will work, and showing her online how I will implement this website.

They say, "thanks, we'll call you tomorrow". No check, nothing. They refused to sign the agreement that I brought over, and said that they will talk to me more the next day.

Sufficed to say, I got no call the next day. So I droped by their business. Their car was there, a light was on, but no one answered to my knock at their door.

So I call them, and I write them an email later that night (about 5 pm). No return call, no return email.

So needless to say. Before doing service for this company. Get a retainer and a contract first.

Learn to seperate a 'quote' from 'work time'

AUTHOR: Mark - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Friday, August 11, 2006

I needed a quote. He pushed to come by, so I said OK. He didn't train me and I didn't asked to be trained. Once there, he was very pushy about signing a contract. He had an ad claiming to build a website for $199. We said we'd think about it. This guy made us feel really uncomfortable. We shopped around and found someone else that we felt we could trust.

I agree with what he said, don't do work without a signed contract. We didn't sign one. Don't do 'training' as he claims without a contract. I never asked for 'training' nor received any. I never saw nor signed a 'training' contract. He is a website builder, not a 'trainer'. We got a quote and went with someone else that we good about. We didn't trust him, bottom line.

My advice, be careful about people that are pushy when asking for a simple quote. Don't allow them to come out-to-you if a simple phone quote could do. I don't need to see a face to get a $199 quote for a website.

Life is pretty simple, make a call, ask for a quote, if the guy wants to come by to give the quote, gives the quote, you choose someone else. That is the nature of sales. There never would have been this 'loss of time' if he would have just given a phone quote and not been 'pushy' about having to come see us to shove a contract down our throat.

He needs to ad to his marketing, "If I come give you a quote and if you don't go with my company, I'll be claiming you ripped me off".

This complaint was perfect proof of trusting our feeling of not using this guy.

Be careful about this guy.

No money lost, just time

AUTHOR: Rich - (U.S.A.)

BTW- I wanted to add that no money was lost. Just time.
But time is often money.

I don't mean to make a big deal out of this report.

I simply am encouraging others to use this example as a lesson.
