I purchased living room furniture from Value Furniture at which time I left the minimum deposit requested which was only twenty dollars to hold "sale" price. When I returned only a week later, I paid the remaining balance in full and in cash and scheduled delivery, a "promise date" of 2/10/06. They told me the delivery would be $79 and I was to pay that to the driver upon delivery. There was absolutely no indication given that the furniture was not and would not be in stock.
I took off the day from work to receive the delivery. I made several calls that day to verify that it would still be coming. It was once seven thirty in the evening rolled around that I become nervous. I called the store and spoke to Ray, at which time they informed me that the driver did deliveries up until nine at night. I waited all night for the delivery and no one showed up, nor did they call.
The next day, I called the store at ten in the morning, which is opening and I was informed that my furniture was not in stock. When I asked when it would be coming in, I was told about ten days. I was angry but I settled on the later delivery.
Well, the next delivery date came and went and again no call no show. I went down in person the very next morning. It was then that they informed me that my furniture wasn't in stock and hadn't been for the past month. I demanded a refund and was told that I would be issued no refund until two weeks from the promise date. From that day it was only two days. I told them I would be back in two days for my money.
The very next day, I was given a call saying that one set had been located and that it could be shipped the next day. My husband took off and stayed home for the delivery which did not show up until ten that night. When it was delivered, the tables were missing, the loveseat had a huge tear and the legs were missing. I called the store and told them what was missing and I was told that the tables were on "back order" for another month from Ashley Furniture. I eventually found out that Ashley had been discontinued from their company and I would never get my pieces. This isn't even to mention that they told me they would send a repair man out to fix the tear! To fix the tear...I purchased new furniture.
I was fed up and demanded a full refund. They told me that I wouldn't get it b/c they had made the promise date and delivered, despite the damage and missing pieces. After much resistance, they told me they would give me the money. Every time I went into the store, I got the same story about there not being enough cash. I have encountered so many people with the same complaint. It is ridiculous that they can hold someone's money hostage this way.
