A complaint (case # 3244358) was filed with Hyundai Motor America in California concerning the purchase of a Hyundai Tucson from Van Hyundai on February 23, 2008.

This complaint concerns the dealer add-ons that total $1,497, but were never placed on the vehicle by Van. We are requesting a reimbursement from Van for the amount of $1,497.

We negotiated the price of the car from the MRSP price of $23,332 and not $21,835 as on the original sticker (evidence of sticker can be provided). During the purchase of the Tucson we requested three dealer addon items be removed from the vehicle, but the sales staff refused. None of the dealer add-ons were removed from the purchased price as Mr. House had informed us they were. The dealer after market items that Van sales associates indicate were on the vehicle were as follows:

Pinstripe ($299) - As verified by visiting two Dallas area Hyundai dealers and also at Van Hyundai, this pin strip was originally placed on the vehicle by the manufacture at no cost. Van did not place this pinstripe on the car, but they inflated the price to indicate they
did. Calls were made to other Dallas Hyundai dealers including Van about the cost of adding a strip to a Tucson. We were informed an after market strip cost between $50 & $100 depending on size, type and location. When we asked "Chris" about other cars on the lot with no additional dealer sticker, but had the pin stripe, he said "That was a mistake".

* Nitrogen tires ($599) - After we inquired from several nitrogen tire locations about air being deflated from regular tires and nitrogen being added, it was determined that no nitrogen was added to these tires. Inquires were made from several companies that add nitrogen to new car tires. Their charge averaged $6-10/tire. A call was also made to VAn Hyundai/Cheverlot about there cost to place nitrogen in new tires and we were told about $39.95/ four tires. Several dealers informed us you can't tell if nitrogen was added except for colored air caps placed on the tire valves. There was not caps on the tire valves. (Why does Van charge $39.95 to add nitrogen, but deliberately inflate the price to $599 for new car sells?)

* Theft Guard ($599) - This theft guard was NEVER placed on the car, but it was included in the negotiated price. We informed the sales management we did not want to purchase it, but were told it was on the car, and if we wanted it activated there was an additional cost. We
turned down that additional cost with the finance manager. He refused to remove the $599 from the invoice. Salesmen at the dealership were not well informed about this theft guard and repeatedly informed us the etching of VIN numbers were under the door handle as the identification. Not only were numbers not under the door handle, but according to Theft Guard, there was suppose to be VIN etchings on the several windows of the car, not door handles. There are no etching on this car. After informing Van of this situation we were told "bring it in and we will etch it on". This is after we paid for an an aftermarket item on the car that was not there. We never wanted the theft guard, but sales staff would not remove it from the sales price of the car.

In conclusion, we want a check for $1,497 sent to him at the address on file. This is for the dealer add-on cost that were never added on to the vehicle.
