All pet owners, please read my story and be wary when taking your pets to VCA animal hospitals.

They are hyper aggressively profit driven, which determines they care more about their pocket than your pets, and later you will see how they tried to get away from their mistakes and responsibilities in a unethical way:

And they will definitely choose their benefits when conflicting with pet owners benefits. On the surface, they might be very polite and hospitality. Dont stop at the surface, always go down.

VCA animal hospitals are always merging and trying to make themselves bigger and bigger. Not only the executives are highly profit driven, so does the doctors at each branches. 6 years ago, I went to one VCA hospital, and was quite impressed on how aggressive they tried to get me using their services either personally or through direct mails. I was quite impressed because I seldom see many business act this way.

5 years later, I was bumped into them again upon emergency. Since it is a big charge, I asked them to explain to me all the charges so as to make sure there will be no mistakes. This means I am still considering whether to use them or not. The doctor supposed to explain to me, however brought in an accountant unexpected. The account during the whole process, she is like trying to press me something and her whole eyes are not my pet and cares, but money, money, money. You know how it feels when a cold blooded person talks to you. Most unbelievable, she can be cold and cruel if I am not paying, but actually I am just still trying to understand the process and havent decided to use them yet. They told me I should get my pet treated asap, but later I learned from others 2-3 days would be ok. So I was pushed to make a decision fast by them. Since I dont want to delay, I took their service. Then I cant believe what I see: the doctor and the account looked at each other and smiled, cheering their victory, over a sale, when they should care more about my pets. I was burned out hard, but I still used them because I was made into believe I have to take action fast.

If you have lots of life experience, you should know never make a decision in a rush and if the business pushes you to do something, always stay away from them as things will go wrong.

Later on that same doctor, tried to persuade me to put my pet stay over night. She said it will ONLY be $50. But when the bill came out, it was $92. When I questioned her, instead of fix her problem, she tried hard to convince me they upgraded to extensive care. Even for $40, they are unwilling to give up, you can see how crazy these gold digger are. So it is not surprised when later it has been found out they caused my dogs medical failure again that they wont fix it even they know well it is their problem. As it will cause them thousands of dollars.

VCA unethical doctors get away from their medical mistakes and cause my little dog to suffer:

Upon completion of the surgery, I found several problems with my pet. What is really shady is that the surgery doctor always tells me everything my dogs recovery is ok, never tell more these obvious problem left over my dog. And obviously she is trying to hide her mistakes in the surgery.

I go back to question them. Another doctor, same attitude, tried to deny everything even the evidence is there and nothing can be denied. How unethical are these doctors: never face their problems honestly and only want money. I took their word and didnt take any further action against them.

Then a few months later, it truly happened that my dogs medical condition failed again, which only happens upon unsuccessful surgery. The unethical surgeon, just like any other doctors, denied everything upon powerful evidence. (Obviously anyone works under the VCA environment is trained the same way: put money above anything)

The director at VCA West Los Angeles, David Bruyette, is well above the peers. Before I even open my month, he told me to take my dog out, they will not fix my dog. When I told I will only be able to arrive the hospital later to pick up my dog, you know what he said: he asked me to take my dog AWAY asap, in an attitude of trying to throw my dog out since she is just a trouble rather than money now.

When later I presented strong evidence that they cause my dogs problem, instead of arguing it is not their problem (because there is no ground for them to argue, it is already a fact), David Bruyette said: NO MATTER WHAT, I WONT PAY. Up to this point, it is very clear that I am facing a very unethical and unethical person.

You wont believe what happened. I took my dog to another vet. This vet is actually one of the best of the nation. I told them about my situation. They told me if it is in their case, they would give 20% discount whether it is their fault or not upon re-failure. Since they know about VCA West Los Angeles, they will try call VCA to ask them to give me the same 20% offer. It had been a long conversation, when the doctor came back, unbelievably she told me she cant take my dog neither because they have business relationships with VCA

Obviously over the phone, David Bruyette threatened them not to treat my dog because of the business relationship. I am sure David Bruyette will be shaking when he founds out the public knows about his shady behaviors. That he would add his personal preference (as he doesnt like me, I pointed out their mistakes) to normal business practices. Then the doctor referred me to another good vet since they are threatened by VCA West Los Angeles not to treat. This new vet is super honest and caring. He found out the evidence of VCA mistakes. I am sure David Bruyette will be shaking hard again because he tried to harm me but only helped me.

In summary, VCA is only profit driven and cares more about money than your pets. VCA West Los Angeles director David Bruyette and doctors behavior cant really stand in the day light.

There are much better doctors out there as I have found. You just need to take your time to find it. Hope my story can be of some clue for you.

Almost seven years ago, in response to a very negative review written about Dave Bruyette, the Medical Director at VCA West Los Angeles animal hospital, I wrote a review stating that he was the best. Unfortunately, I have now had a similar experience to that of the original poster. After I complained about their inability to diagnose a condition over a period of months, Dr. Bruyette refused to treat my dog who had been a patient of the hospital since she was a puppy and who was in the middle of being treated for multiple conditions by specialists at his hospital. He would not even agree to treat her until I found another doctor. This dog was a patient for six years and I had been a client for almost ten. I can no longer recommend him and I apologize to anyone who relied on my review.

Six years ago, in response to a nasty review written about Dave Bruyette, I wrote a review stating that he was the best.  Unfortunately, I have now had a similar experience to that of the original poster. After I complained about their inability to diagnose a condition over a period of months, Dr. Bruyette refused to treat my dog who had been a patient at the hospital since she was a puppy and who was being treated for multiple conditions by specialists. He would not even agree to treat her until I found another doctor.  This dog was a patient for 6 years and I had been a client for almost 10. I can no longer recommend him and I apologize to anyone who relied on my review.

The owner has used the same rebuttal, verbatim, for multiple complaints.  Accusing complaining customers of not speaking proper English and/or being uneducated is extremely unprofessional behavior. It would be better to make no response at all than to resort to petty insults.

I have read both of the reports and neither of these clients exist in our database. I can only assume they are using false names to remain anonymous. I certainly am concerned about their extremely harsh and negative accusations. The grammar is very odd so I do not know if perhaps English is not their first language or they are simply uneducated. I am sorry they are angry individuals but I suspect their anger is the result of things outside of my control as a veterinarian. I have practiced for 25 years and I can assure anyone who may read these unfortunate and unsubstantiated reports that they are completely false.

I brought my 16 year old toy poodle, who has heart disease, into Dr. Bruyette at VCA-West LA after she had been diagnosed with kidney failure at another hospital. He worked with me on a consistent and virtually constant basis to get her kidneys to a normal level which is very difficult since the heart and the kidneys have competing needs. Not only is Dr. Bruyette a great doctor on a clinical level, but his "bedside manner" was extraordinary. He cared not only about the well being of my baby but also of me as a human being. He answered my numerous emails which I sent at all hours of the day and night and he responded to every question which I asked -- even when he was out of town! In addition to the foregoing, because Dr. Bruyette is such a talented doctor, his schedule is almost always completely booked. However, due to my dog's tenuous situation, he fit us in whenever necessary. With respect to the prices charged by VCA, I have been to numerous vets and VCA is comparable to others in the area. Owning a dog can be expensive, especially when the dog is sick.

It is unfortunate that people only report negative experiences. I am sure that the number of Dr.Bruyette's satisfied clients outweigh those who have complained here.
