velocity express courier co. settlement check shortages Cincinnati, Ohio

I started working as a contractor with Velocity express in Cincinnati Ohio on 6-6-05. We (aprox 20 drivers.) worked exclusively for 1 large office supply company delivering office supplies. After aprox. 6 months some drivers started noticing some minor pay discrepencies.

I started paying close attention to my settlement checks and noticed some minor shortages also. Both local managers were very cooperative in trying to rectify these shortages. After a while it started occurring more frequently. Finally the managers told us that we would all have to take pay cuts or else Velocity Express corp. would do it for them. The managers refused Corp. orders to cut our pay, so our check shortages became ever week. Some were missing as much as $300.00. We were told by managers they would try to get it back. This did not work for most of us and some drivers had to quit. We were told this was part of the corp. pay cuts. We did not agree to take pays cuts, nor did any of us re-sign our contracts at a lower rate.

 Eventually Velocity express lost the contract, and we all lost our jobs with 1 day notice. None of us got any back pay, some were owed thousands of dollars. I followed Velocity express on the internet and found many other drivers across the country were having the same problem.

Why did i wait so long to write this? It seemed they were doomed to go out of business. With these scary business practices how could they survive? I just noticed they seem to be back in business? How can this be? I hope this can help any Class action or other drivers with the same problem. George
