I strongly urge anyone considering purchasing the Diamond Wireless Protection Program to reconsider. According to their contract "replacements are often new but may be reconditioned". I have learned that this only applies to phones that are the most recent model. Realistically, most companies introduce a new model at least once a year so by the time your phone breaks, it's almost guaranteed to be outdated. When you file a claim and send in your broken phone, they send you a reconditioned version of someone else's broken phone. In my experience, they may have fixed some problem but there are bound to be others if it's a used product.
Last month the screen on my Samsung Galaxy 4S went out after only 11 months of use. I paid the $100 deductible and was sent a phone that immediately had issues with the screen and I learned was refurbished. Since they said replacements are "often new" I thought I just got bad luck of the draw the first time so I called. They sent me another phone that was worse than the first. It was clearly used as it had about half the battery life it should and must have had a bad antenna because the reception was terrible and it frequently dropped calls. After 3 weeks, it now doesn't make or receive calls so it's worthless as a phone.
After going many rounds with customer service reps, I could get another replacement but am almost guaranteed that it will be a reconditioned phone and will likely have its own problems. I refuse to keep playing this game because they are not providing the service that I bought. We had a contract and I paid the premiums but they apparently have the option of providing whatever interpretation of the contract suits them. I have since cancelled my plan and requested a refund of the original deductible I paid to get a new phone because that's not what I got. Not surprisingly, they refused and I'm stuck with a broken phone.
My recommendation to anyone is to never buy the insurance. If your phone breaks or dies, just buy a used one on ebay or craiglist. In the past year, I paid $120 in premiums and $100 in deductible and only end up with an unusable phone. For that $220, I'm pretty sure I could have gotten a used replacement.
