I purchased Versacheck silver a few years ago.  Loved the product and decided to upgrade to Gold a couple of weeks ago. Discovered they have partnered with a company which requires that you hand over your banking information to "verify" your checking account.  Checks cannot be written without "Void" printed across the check if you do not hand over your banking information and given a validation key.

Given the number of well known institutions where security has been breached and consumer information such as credit and debit card numbers have been stolen over the past two years, I absolutely will not give my account numbers/banking information out.

In the "fine print" Versacheck says a subscription is required, however they never say what that subscription is or that you cannot use Versacheck to simply wrtie checks, nor does Versacheck plainly warn you that you must give our your banking information to a third party anywhere on the box, or in their advertisements on their web site.

I emailed the company and asked if we could not "just write checks" and do away with the requirement of distributing my account information.  The reply was basically "NO".

So $140.00 later, I sit with a useless piece of software.  Do NOT purchase Versacheck in any of it's newest versions as you will be required to subscribe to their verification service and provide your banking information.

The only one...

AUTHOR: Robert - ()

The only one who missed the point was you.

It is obviously useless to try and explain it again, so I will just leave you with one thought to ponder.

If this company didn't require some sort of verification that you were trying to write checks on your account..what would keep someone from just printing a check with your infomation and wiping out your account?  Then if that happened would you just say "oh well"..or would you be here complaining that they should have required the other person to prove it is their account.

Wrong

AUTHOR: Michael - ()

POSTED: Sunday, August 11, 2013

Not everyone uses debit or credit cards.  I choose not to for several reasons.  First and foremost is the fact that I just cleaned up a mess where my credit card number was stolen and sent to Germany where an attempt was made to charge 25,000 against it.

I have never had an issue writing checks to pay my bills.

I didn't buy the software for any kind of protection.  I bought it to write checks and pay bills with.  I'm not the only one who has been ripped off by this company.

Trying to see the Ripoff..

First off I can't help but wonder why you don't see the irony in your "complaint".

You are talking about how scammers steal credit and debit card numbers..yet you are talking about "checks".  Which while they can be linked to the same account they are totally different.  You seem to have an issue sending out a voided check to a vendor VersaCheck is asking you to send it to..yet you don't have a fundamental issue in writing checks.  As if you did you wouldn't have bought this software.

Do you even realize that everytime you write check..you are giving your banking information out?  Well guess what...do you know the only two pieces of information a scammer needs to wipe out your checking account?  They just need your routing number and the account number.  Where..wait for it...is going to be on not only the "voided" check but ANY check you write to any person and/or company.

Next, realize what software you have.  You have a piece of software that without some sort of verification would allow ANYONE to create a check for ANY account..yes even a check on YOUR account.   So you should be thanking them for requiring this step instead of writing this as a RipOff.

If you have any doubts of this..just search the Internet for how many scams involve fake or counterfit checks...they will WAY out number any scams with Debit or Credit Cards.

Only scammers write checks

AUTHOR: Lorenzo D. Magnificent - ()

POSTED: Sunday, August 11, 2013

Why would anyone want to write a check in this century for any reason other than to perpetrate a scam?  Everybody uses a debit card for in-person transactions and nearly everybank offers a bill-pay service for mailing in payments that cannot otherwise be made online.

The only people who write checks any more are scam artists passing bad paper.  No wonder you don't want to give up your banking information!
