Extremely thin, I brought my boxer to our local Vet. Bloodwork was performed and it was suggested we perform an ultrasound scan from nearby Pet Hospital before dog being put on antibiodics. Brought dog to, what I believed was, noted Helen Woodward Pet Adoption Hospital facility. Asked for ultrasound on dog, was given $1,716.00 bid. We insisted on Ultrasound only. Was given the story that we didn't love our dog, "Don't you want to do everything possible for your pet?" Dog was 14 human years. Reluctantly they agreed to do Ultrasound for only at $380.00, some bargain, as it was as low as $110.00 down the way. Watched as older wealthy women paid several thousand dollar checks to pickup their severely aged, nearly crippled, gray faced pets. This place was cleaning up, preying on wealthy old ladies and nuvo-riche.

We feel we were penalized by this facility -- for after three phone calls and nine hours, they still hadn't performed the test. I called one last time, was hung up on. Went to pick-up dog, still no work had been performed. Asked for money back, denied. Took dog to another hospital, he was immediately rushed to emergency room. Was diagnosed with two-week impacked stool, was given a day to live, he was so dehydrated, weak, and thin. Did an X-ray, kept dog overnight on IV, performed an enima -- charge, $400.00. My dog nearly died in the care of the original hospital and these people acted quick.

Turns out, original hospital was not part of Helen Woodward, only rented land from them. Has been recently asked to leave by Woodward. It is leaving next month, but starting hugh new facilities with ill-gotten gains from non-complaining suckers in wealthy area.

Wouldn't do business with them ever, suggest you avoid.

#1 UPDATE EX-employee responds

sorry about your experience

AUTHOR: Niki - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Wednesday, September 28, 2005

As a ex-employee of Vet specialty. i really find your claim odd. As you know there are several vets there with different specialties. There are only 4 Internal Meds Specialist that can perform a complete Ultrasound.
Unfortunatley they do not have the time to do "procedures " until all appointments are seen, and they have several to do. If your docot suggested a Ultrasound, when was it suggested and when did you go to have it done?? 1 doctor there will have 8 ultrasound minimum on a day, and they often stay past midnight. They are not uncaring...they are busy. i am very sorry for you experience, and hope you dogs out come was ok.
just so you also know. they were not "kicked out" of helen woodward, they grew too big and have too many specialties for that size of a building. Helen woodward was also expanding, so they have bought there own place. I have not worked there for over 6 years and am still in the business. i am though sympetheic to your ordeal.
