Contacted Viking Vending via their 800 number in late october of 2006 from the following ad text placed in the Tucson Newspapers. LOCAL CASH BUSINESS. INVEST 34k ONE TIME AND MAKE $2500 A WEEK FOREVER! WE PROVIDE TRAINING, CUSTOMERS, EQUIPMENT, AND SUPPORT. CALL NOW: 800-678-8454. i SPOKE REPEADTELY WITH DAVE MORRIS AND BILL HARRIS. They told me they were 20 year veterans and experts on the vending industry and thru extensive research and development had come up with all the answers to vending issues. these were: 1. low profit margins. 2. difficulty in locating the units. They said there program had solved these issues and that i would be guaranteed an income minimum of $5K a month for a $16K investment and that it would double in december if i bought now due to the holiday shopping rush and higher volume of people out in retail enviromnet. they were emphatic about this! they said they worked with childsearch.org and that each candy/donation box would have a sticker of missing child from my state of arizona, and that the retailers would gladly allow the unit in their store to help the cause, and all i had to do was send a donation each month to childsearch, when i collected my money and refilled the units with candy. they told me each location would be prequalifed and preinspected by them on the phone and in their literature. DAvid MOrris told me the candy would cost 2 cents a piece and the average dontation would be 25 cents. They told me since these were honor boxes with an open bottom with full access to the candy i would make more money than a convetional unit that only dispenses the candy one piece at a time when the money has been paid. NOne of the above has ever come true, as is blatantly false, and they have misrepresented this entire business to me. Furthermore, the above facts are all secondary to the fact, that when i received the boxes unopened i called the company and spoke to bill harris and requested an immediate refund. He said he would charge me $4k to refund them or a 25% restocking fee, but he would have to get back to me since the owner of the company was in the hospital on an emergency. Her name is Marilyn Hall. IN the meantime he said go ahead and locate the route since he would either sell the route in the next week or two or refund my money, whichever came first. The following week he then changed his story, and said there would be no refund since the route was located and the only option would be to sell it. According the Marilyn Hall, the president she told the bbb they were not only selling it for me but it would be done at no charge to me! They made me pay to run ads and they have not contacted me in 3 weeks with any information, nor are they running ad at this time. I simply want money back as promised less the $4k they get to keep for a couple hours of phone time. they have several complaints with the bbb, several unresolved and I now speaking with the FTC and the attorney general to determine whether they even filed the required paperwork to sell thse packages, and provide me with the required full pre-disclosures. I will take this as far as neccessary to get my money back! Thus far after servicing the route for a month i have not made enough money to even replace the candy in the displays! People take handfulls of candy a leave a dime or quarter. the marketing system is designed for one thing. To make the initial sale with no accountability!

AFTER REVIEWING YOUR REPORTS ABOUT VIKING VENDING I HAVE INVESTED MY HARD EARNED MONEY ELSEWHERE. I FOUND OTHER REPUTABLE VENDERS SELL SIMILIAR VENDING PACKAGES FOR THOUSANDS LESS. THEY OFFER PACKAGES FROM $3000, AS OPPOSED TO THE HIGH PRESSURE TACTICS VIKING VENDING EMPLOYED IN TRYING TO GET ME TO BUY A $34,000 PACKAGE AND HAVE THE PRESIDENT FLY OUT TO WINE AND DINE ME! I HOPE THESE REPORTS STAY ONLINE AS I FOUND BY USING THE INTERNET. THERE IS NO PLACE ELSE I FOUND THIS INFO EXCEPT THE BBB IN NORTH CAROLINA WHICH ALSO HAS A NEGATIVE RATING OF THIS COMPANY! I LIVE IN NEVADA AND THEY ARE NOT EVEN LICENSED TO SELL HER DESPITE WHAT THERE SALES REPS TOLD ME..

Hello Michael,
I have just about given up with these people.
I just happen to log on and saw your note.

It has gotten worse.
After contacting attorney gen in North Carolina they advised me to send letter to Viking which I did.
Viking told me to send back boxes, to them which I did.
They were returned to me. After talking to Bill Harris he told me to send again and they would reimburse me for shipping cost. After sending these boxes again they were returned again to me just yesterday. I can't call them because I think they have a block on my #'s.
Over four hondred dollars in shipping charges I am now out as well as the thousands given to Viking months ago.
I am at my witts end.
Any advise would be great.

Hello Michael,
I just discovered your ordeal with Viking Vending.
Well, you can know your not the only one. I have been trying to get a refund for the last four months and obviously to no avail.
Bill Harris (when I can reach him) keeps telling me he is working hard to "sell" my route. I am running out of patience and looking for some advice on your somewhat successful dealings with these people. If I have to talk about Dave Morris I will not be posted for what I would say.

Any advise would be greatly appreciated.

No Answers, More Questionable Ethics

Well... I waited for 2 weeks for this "Michael from Arizona" to respond- he could not answer the rather plain and simple questions posed to him. I don't know what to think of him and his complaint. Meanwhile, I have researched on my own and uncovered (in addition to everthing else)that Viking Vending's charter was officially suspended by the state of North Carolina. An "Unsatisfactory" record with Better Business Bureau, a suspended charter, and this report on ripoffreport that suggests that all their promises of profitability are totally false---- "How can Viking Vending expect anyone to faithfully send them a large sum of $ for start up costs with one can turn up all of this negative information on them online?" I posed this question to Viking Vending (including this report on ripoffreport) and they totally ignored me AND they ignored this report. If I were running a business and there was negative information to be found on me, I would confront and resolve it. Then again, that's me. My conclusion- the risk is too big to take, on a program being run by people who do nothing to address negative reports, and the lack of proof that it makes any money at all.

first off, thanks for the quick response. I too run my own business and I know what hard work is.

There would be no point in buying your business (or anyone's business) if it isn't profiting. I can't see there being too much difference from your town to mine, unless you are in a really bad neighborhood, or some other reason. Did you try having any of the units relocated? Viking guarantees locations. Are all 100 units (I'm assuming you have 100) losing money???

If Viking has sold this package to other people around the US, why is this the only complaint I have found from anyone that lost money? If you search Viking Computers you'll find a LOT of complaints from people that have lost money to this shoddy business- this is what happens when people get ripped off, word gets around. Have you honestly heard of others that have lost money with Viking Vending's program?

I need some honest answers Michael, would be interested in buying your business but first I need some answers to these questions. Please reply...

gathering info on Viking Vending

Hi Mike,
I have read your entire file here on Viking Vending and subsequent BBB reports as well. I cannot seem to find anyone else that was involved with this program who has a complaint similar to yours. I cannot seem to find anything negative on this company anywhere (other than your complaint, and 3 unresolved complaints in 3 years with BBB). I need some honest answers, would prefer if we could discuss via private email.

My main question- on the 100 locations that you were furnished by Viking- are you saying that none of them made any money, and that none of them returned more than the value of the candy? Are you seriously losing money?

Is this happening in all your locations? It's hard to believe that the locations you have are so miserable that people would take a crapload of candy and leave a dime. Would you honestly say that you tried in good faith to recoup the money you put into this program? would appreciate a reply

I have bulk candy machines and let me say those plastic little vending pieces your talking about you will make no money. I know someone else that has those and let me say I can't stand them on my machines either.

I can't say for the charity. You can write it off.

I AM ASKING ANYONE WHO COMES ACROSS A PLASTIC COUNTERTOP DISPLAY filled with candy or chocolate WITH AN OPEN BOTTOM WITH A CHILDSEARCH.ORG STICKER ON THE FRONT TO CONTACT ME.

I HAVE FOUND TWO OTHER VICTIMS OF THEIR BOGUS BUSINESS PRACTICES AND WE WANT TO FILE A LAWSUIT AND THE MORE PEOPLE THE BETTER. AGAIN THIS IS A DISPLAY THAT IS ABOUT 18 INCHES HIGH, 8 INCHES WIDE MADE OF PLASTIC FILLED WITH CANDY OR CHOCOLATE THAT IS SPONSORED BY CHILDSEARCH.ORG, with a pciture of a missing child on the front.

THE CHARITY HAS TURNED A BLIND EYE TO VIKING VENDING BUSINESS PRACTICES SINCE THEY RECEIVE A DONATION EACH MONTH FROM THE VENDERS FOR THE RIGHT TO USE THEIR STICKERS.

THEY ARE ADVERTISING ALL OVER THE COUNTRY WITH AN AD THAT USUALLY STARTS OUT WITH THIS: INVEST 34$ ONE TIME AND MAKE $2500 A WEEK FOR LIFE, WE SUPPLY TRAINING, MATERIALS, CUSTOMERS, ETC. CHANCES ARE SOMEONE WILL BUY THEIR SALES PITCH AS THEY ARE MOST CONVINCING.

I checked with bbb.org as well as some references with the machines that I have. Those plastic whatever you call them are easily stealable as well as profit loss. You might have a tough time getting money back. I can't believe people that owns those small things.

The charlotte BBB has downgraded their rating to unsatisfactory with Viking Vending..what a suprise! I have also discovered thus far, they are not even licensed to sell these in arizona where i bought it, so i am now checking the statues and reporting them to the attorney general if they do not refund my money..I am working with the BBB in charlotte and will keep you posted. I have also found other victims of their sales tactics who paid twice what i paid! ouch..thats 34K! Before u buy anthing from a sales or marketing or vending company check with your federal and state offices to see if they are licensed, and check the franchise and business opportunity laws in your state either thru the attorney general or secretary of state office to see what recourse you may have..and read the ftc's document on " The surge in bogus business opportunites. Viking committed 7 of 8 tactics used to sell to me...

First off I would have asked for references. The vending business has its ups and downs. Unbelievable that you fell for that trap. I have the same charity as you explained but the lady Marilyn gave me some helpful hints so lets put the charity to the side. You can make money but the way they were talking about not a chance. Your better off locating the stuff yourself other wise not the right business to get into.

Another thing is don't believe everything that people tell you. Business takes time and effort.
