Villa Del Sol-unit 2243 Owner Greg We were robbed and owner and management company refuse to help us! Corpus Christi Texas

We rented a condo here from a private owner. His name is Greg and he owns unit 2243. We rented it through a website called vacation home rentals. I am embarassed to admit that we paid $448.50 for our two nights in this disaster. To begin with, we were told that the room would be ready at 4PM and of course, it wasn't ready until 5:30. We had to sit out in the sun and wait for the room to be ready.

The room was old and poorly furnished but I am not writing about the cosmetics of the property. This goes so much further. We arrived this last Friday, August 9th. The following morning we all headed to the beach where we stayed about three hours. My husband had notice a maintenance man eying the group as we headed out but didn't think too much about it, even though he was dressed in clothes that looked gang related.

Upon returning to the room, we noticed my daughter's cell phone missing and then her class ring from college, which she had removed to go to the beach. We spent at least an hour looking for these two items. I had to get some cash out for lunch and found all my bills were also missing. A search of the unit revealed 2 of our digital cameras missing, the ring, the cell phone and all of our cash.

We immediately ran down to tell the manager and were rudely greeted by "unit number?" after learning we had been robbed. He basically unsympathetically told us that there was nothing he could do. He was uncaring and rude. We then reported the incident to police and found out from them that this is a common occurance at this property. There were four last weekend. My emails to the owner have gone unanswered. We are out at least $1700 in cash and possessions.

My granddaughter's camera was one of the items stolen. She is 7 and cried most of the day on Saturday. Can you imagine how traumatic that is to a little innocent child? She had just received the camera for her 7th birthday. I would appreciate any advice anyone can give me as to how to proceed from here. Are either the owner or the management company liable? Shouldn't we receive part of our fee back? We spent all afternoon and all evening reporting this incident and making calls to the businesses that we needed to inform.

Aside from the robbery, the place is a pit. The elevator has not been inspected and rattled around and smelled to high heaven. The balconies are falling down and there is wood rot everywhere. The pool was filthy. One of our mattresses was an air mattress. There was a dead roach on the floor and our socks were black on the bottom. The shower water handle did not work and there was mildew all over the wall.
