last year i acquired a new Visioneer One Touch Scanner 8100 scanner. It was used very little and installed without problems into my Windows 98. For a long time I experienced problems with my computer and finally it was operational and updated to Windows ME.
I used the scanner no more than 5 or 6 hours in the 13 months of ownership. Now I tried to install the scanner again but even so it accepts the original software and installs the driver, later it looks for a driver from windows. Windows intalls the driver but then cannot do it and is looking for a "pmxgl.dll" file which it cannot find and no one seems to be familiar with.
In order to receive info from Visioneer I faxed to their Technical Support. I did not receive any answer and faxed my request again. Nothing!!! I then called their Support, a 900 number which as they explain charges 1.00 USD per minute. However after this charge explanation nobody comes to the phone and you then wisely have to hang up.
I think their so-called support sounds good when you buy their goods, but when you need it they don't respond or in case of a phone call they hang you out to dry and cash in on your money and seem to add insult to injury.
I think this is premeditated and fraudulant to the consumer. If anyone needs a scanner don't buy a VISIONEER and inform the store owner of this.
Should someone have a solution to my problem please let me know,Thank you Egon J S. Texas

This might help!

I feel for you, I had Windows ME and I had many problems with error messages. It was always a pain trying to fix them all.
1. Take your windows me cd, put it in, go click on start, then run, then browse, select your cd-rom drive, then open, then type in Driver5 for the file name, then click open-or OK I can't remember which it is for the me edition. You should see the file pmxgl.dll there. Highlight it (select it) then select copy. Take out cd. Now, you have to search for files or folders on your computer. Find c:\windows\options\cabs. Highlight it, select paste. This will put a copy of the pmxgl.dll where it belongs so windows can find it.
2. If this doesn't solve your problem, try going to their website- I can't post the name, but It's www.(insert the scanner company's name here).com. Click on drivers. Next page- Select your model number. Next page- Select ot8100logo.exe. This will download the driver for your scanner. Open it (or extract all if it's a zipped file(it's easy to see if it's a zipped file- the picture for the file will have a zipper on a folder).
3. Another option is to put the windows me cd-rom in then restart your computer. Then it should ask you if you want to install or press the letter R on the keyboard for repair. I would recomend this a last resort because SOMETIMES this will get rid of files that you saved on your computer. Now I'm pretty sure that ME has system restore, to check go to start then program (files?) then accesories then system tools. If you have system restore it will be listed there. If you do have system restore, you can use the windows me cd to repair, and IF your files "disappear" afterwards then you can go to sytem restore and select an earlier date- your files will return after a restart. But your problem will be back so try 1 or 2 first.
I hope this solves your problem!
