STOP! ..before you think about using the Better Business Bureau (BBB)... CLICK HERE to see how other consumers were victimized by the BBB's false or misleading information. Don't be fooled! It has been reported, when there are thousands of complaints and other investigations underway by authorities, the BBB has no choice but to finally give an UNsatisfactory rating to a BBB member business that is paying the BBB big membership fees every year. When a business is reported that is NOT a BBB member, BBB files WILL more likely show an UNsatisfactory rating, then reportedly shake down that company to become a member of the BBB. One positive thing about the BBB is, either way, if a business has an unsatisfactory rating with the BBB, you can be sure, the business is bad. But what about all those BBB member businesses that had complaints filed against them? Consumers never get to hear about them. What about the BBB advertising to the public? Is this a false and misleading perception they are giving about consumer confidence when dealing with a business? Click here to understand more of what consumers and business alike are saying about the BBB. You decide. ..Remember. The BBB membership is not earned, it's paid for!

Old modems are a VOIP killer

AUTHOR: Lorraine - Geek Consumer Advocate :-) - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Saturday, December 31, 2005

While Vonage was too expensive for us on our very limited budget, we found Lingo, which is the exact same, except cheaper for an even larger calling area. We decided to give it a try. I hooked up the VOIP box to our modem and router and while I could hear everyone great, they couldn't hear me. This seems to be one of the main complaints of Vonage users too. We had been without a phone for almost 2 years and I hated to just give up, so I started to research out what could be causing the problem.

VOIP phones need high upload and download speeds, which are determined by your cable modem and cable company you get your internet access from. In our case it's Cox Cable. After talking with a level 2 tech we figured out the problem fairly quickly. We had purchased our cable modem from Cox years ago to save on the rental fee each month and it couldn't handle the new upgrades all the cable companies have given their customers in the past year. He scheduled a tech to bring us out a new modem the next day.

As soon as I hooked up the new cable modem (I prefer to do all the work here on our network and normally can get their techs to humor me and allow this), everything was fine. Our calls are crystal clear now, even though I really don't notice much of a difference in internet preformance on the computers. They don't require as much upload bandwidth as VOIP phones do.

I know we also have an area in our user preferences on the Lingo website where we can choose how much upload bandwidth we want the phone to use. They have a place to check off either DSL or cable, cable giving you more. I am not sure if Vonage has that available, but you may want to get on their website and into your account to check if they do. If you have cable, then clicking that would also help your call quality become better.

Moral of this story is, before you start screaming ripoff about the VOIP phone companies, make sure you have the newest cable modem on the market. If the one you have is over a year old, it probably isn't good enough to handle the increased bandwidth and that is the reason your VOIP phone isn't working correctly.

The n**i's telephone Service

AUTHOR: Robert - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Saturday, December 31, 2005

I have had Vonage for a year now. I must tell you I have had no problems with calls. I have had one issue with them, and they followed through with the modem very efficiently and quickly. They take their time, and are not rushed. I have never had dropped calls, and the features are great. I just wih they were to have distinctive ring for other numbers.
One must realize that vonage depends on your broadband connection, not all broadband companies are the same and deliver the same product. Bandwith varies from company to company. That is why one should take advantage of their trial period. So far I have nothing but praise for thios company. The people I have recommended them too, are very satisfied with the service.

check your connection with cable isp

AUTHOR: Stew - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Saturday, November 12, 2005

i have comcast and had a problem with vonage, when tech came out(from cable company)they found i had dropped packets, (lost during tranfer out on my internet connection) the cause was a bad cable modem, bad cable wire, and since i do not have cable tv, a device in my box to eliminate me from using it to get cable tv signal. But after all were fixed the vonage service works like a charm, be sure to have your cable, router and vonage on battery backup and have at least one wired phone, in case of power outage. also this service does not work well with dsl..as the bandwidth is too low. hope this helps somebody...If you have a great cable connection its a great deal, if not, dont bother you will have nothing but problems.

Sold on Vonage

AUTHOR: Sherry - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Thursday, November 03, 2005

I too have Vonage - it was affordable, quick and it allows me some neat features like forwarding my calls to my assistant when I have an appointment. Now, I've had a satan experince with Nextel, I can go on and on about the aweful experience I have with my cell phone - which is company appointed so I am stuck with it, but the funny thing is, i hear "WHAT? WHAT? You're breaking up!!" more with my vonage. My vonage drops calls. It has disturbing noises and crackles - I increased the bandwith alotment to improve the quality, and my home network crashed becuase it sucked it all up! VOip is no longer in it's infancy - I simply think this company is. The Linksys router is top notch, the equitment is fine, but it seems to be effected by network traffic more then the VOip systems we pay BANK for in our offices. I hope enough people will b***h and it will improve, some of us who work out of our homes and have kids (with my company) are crutching on it!

So, you're saying that out of the three or four million customers Vonage has in New Jersey...

AUTHOR: V R - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Sunday, October 30, 2005

...There have been 548 complaints against them in three years and that nearly all of them have been resolved. Admittedly, the majority of them have been in the last twelve months but still, I fail to see the point of your tirade.

Same thing with RCN. There have been 134 complaints in the New York area in last three years, nearly all of them resolved.

Consider these points:

Complaints that haven't been responded to or resolved yet could be newer ones. They could be resolved at any minute but the data may not reach the BBB for several days.

There are also a few that say, "Company made every

reasonable effort to Resolve." In my mind this means that the customer made unreasonable demands and or was even belligerant in trying to get more than they deserved. The company wouldn't kowtow to them but would have been willing to work with them if they had been more reasonable about what they needed.

Picture this: A woman accidentally drops her phone in the toilet. She now not only wants a brand new phone for free but several thousand dollars because there was a picture on the phone of her precious baby girl burping up apple sauce and there's no way to get that picture back now.

Would YOU give her a free phone, much less anything at all for the picture? There are people out there who are always wanting something for nothing. Just watch Judge Judy sometime. There are plenty of instances where the plaintiff knows he is to blame but still wants someone else to pay for his misfortune.

So, again, what is your point here?

Amazing!

AUTHOR: Robert - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Sunday, October 30, 2005

I never realixed the n**i's had cell phones. They must not have had a very good network for them though, as they lost the war 60 yrs ago. You'd think if they were able to have better use of such communications, they would have won easily. Or maybe they built a time machine, came to the future, got the cell technology, went back, and still lost. If I had a time machine, and I was a n**i, I would have gone forward to see how things turned out and went back again to change things.

WOW! It's mind-boggling to say the least. Sign ze papers! Here iz your cell phone swinehund!
