After promising access to their extensive, established network of employer contacts in the Omaha/Lincoln area, and estimating for me that I would find my ideal employment solution through them in about 45 days, they ran my credit card for $3100. As part of their process, I then completed a number of standard personal interest assessments and personality profiles presumably so my Voyager "Career Management Director" could identify appropriate area companies/employers/careers for me.

In the meantime, their "professional resume update" was the simple suggestion that I use fewer acronyms (no reformatting - no textual changes - nothing). Once the interest/personality assessments were done, they ran my credit card again for an additional $1900, allowing me to officially "enter the market." I didn't mind the charges because I was confident I was in the hands of a company that knew that it was doing -- know how to get talented people into "right"/"ideal" career positions. I knew too that Voyager was armed with their knowledge of area employers and my assessment results, and so was ready to really dive into the busy activity of finding my "right" place to work.

The result: I was given the names of four (...4) people -- none of whom were potential employers or, as it turned out, even friendly with this company. One was a former client who told me up front that Voyager had been no help to him and that other clients he had met while visiting the Omaha office were plainly angry with the service they were/were not receiving from Voyager. The contacts I had been given typically didn't return calls and when eventually contacted didn't know why I had called them, didn't have the first idea where I should look for a job, or have any idea whom else I might talk to about finding a position.

As it turned out, I had simply given Voyager $5000 and in six months of affiliation with them as a client, they put me in contact with zero potential employers (not one a week, not three a month....a total of ZERO in the entire six months time); they seem to hope that the contacts they do provide might happen to be friendly enough and have the time to even talk to you when you happen to call (understand that there are no prearrangements by Voyager with these contacts to even "expect a call from our client, John Doe"), and that these contacts MIGHT happen to know of jobs or contacts at some other companies that MIGHT know of potential jobs or contacts...etc..etc..etc.

When after five months I asked for simply a professional admission that they had dropped the ball in my case (in the form of a refund), the president of the company, Alan Ludmer replied that I had signed all the "quality control" documents (...these signatures are necessary to move forward in their process), acknowledging that I understood that Voyager was making no promise regarding a minumum number of employer contacts and that they were not guaranteeing employment.

In his view, Voyager had "met all our contractual obligations." My point is that they did...absolutely...nothing....to help me find appropriate employment in the six months I was a "client." I had been given the names of four people who either didn't know or didn't like Voyager. I never received even a message saying, "based on our evaluation of your assessments and knowledge of area employers, these are the companies that would be good matches for you, and we would like to arrange a meeting for you with our contact with each of them." (as a matter of fact, I never even received the list of companies and the names of contacts there and a "here you are, go contact them yourself and good luck).

I don't know how this company fares with everyone else. I only know they failed miserably with my best intentions and then refused to do the right thing and issue the 80% refund I requested. They did not deliver what they promised or what I purchased from them.

I have had the same results as the person in this report from the Omaha Voyager Career Solutions office. I also was given 4 names of persons to contact for networking interview. Of those, I recieved reply from 2 who agreed to meet with me. Neither had any information that would further my job search and mentioned that Voyager sent several people their way. I got nothing more. I also recieved a few admin corrections on my resume, but no substance. The service was a total loss for me. I learned the lesson that you never pay in advance for a service. They never promised to find me a job, but claimed to have executive level contacts in the Omaha market which appeared to me to be untrue. Even though I paid $5000, I was pretty much forgotten about.

When an individual works with a Career Transition Firm, it is critical that both parties have a realistic set of expectations. We can't really do anything for someone; we can only help them to achieve their career goals. This is why our contract and quality assurance documents explicitly state that we are not an employment or placement agency. We do not guarantee employment, income, leads, contacts, etc.

We are sorry that this person was disappointed with our services. His quality assurance documents present a different picture. He wrote that he was very pleased with our services. We can help our clients start their search networks, but we can guarantee results. Ultimately, success or failure is up to the individual. It appears that this person's expectations were different that our actual services. One can't do nothing and expect us to find them a job. You have to take responsibility for your career campaign. We offered to continue to work with him or extend a refund per the terms of his contract, but he declined both.
