Wachovia Bank NA, Shawn L. Mattis Shawn L. Mattis tryed 4 times to get into my Wachovia Bank Acct, on the 5th time he succeded Pompano Beach Florida

My wife called Wachovia Bank to check on our balance. We were amazed to find almost no money in the acct. We have had the same acct for almost 15 years and all our living expenses are direct deposited into this acct.

When we went to our local branch to see what happened, we were horrified to learn that someone had opened a joint acct with my wifes info, and had used a new check card to empty the acct. When we dug deeper, we saw that the same person had tried, unsuccesfully 3 times previously to gain access. The notes in the computer even stated, "Warning!! Obviously someone trying to steal the money using a fake voice, DO NOT OPEN ACCT!!"

On the 4th time, the acct was opened! We were never notified of the 3 previous attempts, or of the new acct opening. We have spent countless hours chasing down bad checks and payments to our creditors. We have had late fees assessed and been humiliated by calls for insufficient funds.

The bank has made good on the bad payments, however, our credit and reputation is ruined. We had PERFECT credit!!

To make matters worse, I went into the Wachovia branch some days later to follow up on some bad checks, and when they put my social security number into the system to bring up the acct, some one had used my ss # to open a mortgage loan in California 5 years previously!!

It looks like someone at Wachovia had incorrectly entered the real borrowers ss#. Yet once again, I NEVER received notification of this loan.

We located the individual that stole my wifes ID and his name is Shawn Leonard Mattis of Pompano Beach Florida. The Palm Beach Sherrifs Office, who has jurisdiction on this matter told us, " Since the bank is returning all the stolen money, we probably WILL NOT go after Mr. Mattis", can you beleive this. Mr. mattis used our money to purchase over $1000.00 at a local supermarket, and noone at Wachovia ever notified us of strange activity.

If any one that reads this knows if we have a case for gross negligence against Wachovia, please let us know. And check your accts. especially if you use Wachovia, because they do not look out for their customers.
