While employed for Cushman and Wakefield, I enrolled in the commuter card program through a company called Wage Works.  They were taking pre taxed money out of my bi weekly wages, to be applied to a commuter / master card to be used to purchase transportation.

I resigned from the job, with a balance of $171.00 remaining on my commuter card/ master card # (((REDACTED))).

Wage Work did not refund the balance.  On 1/6/2017, I spoke with a representative.  She told me the balance was returned to the employer.  She further stated, I had to contact Cushman and Wakefield, the employer, to get the balance refunded.

Why should I have to return to my old employer to request a refund?  Although, the money was pretaxed, it had been accounted for, and already applied to a master card, in my name.   I thought the balance was mine and would be returned to me, once I discontinued the program.  I was never told that, all the money left on the card would be returned to the employer.

Basically, I am out of $171.00 because I have no  intentions on returning to my old job asking for a refund on a commuter card program.   It's ridiculous, inconvenient and it puts you in a compromising situation.  You may not have had a good relationship with your past employer.    However, wage works expects you to go back to them begging for a refund!

Wage Work said it's the rules, according to the IRS.

If this is the rule, people should really think twice about enrolling in the Wage Work Commuter Program.   This program does not benefit the commuter.  It only serves as a tax credit for your employer, giving them more rights to the account than you . . . the Tax Payer!

You will be better off by simply managing your own finances, (after tax) and managing your time better, by purchasing your transportation in advance as you go along, and as you need it.

I WOULD ADVISE ALL . . . DO NOT ENROLL IN THE WAGE WORK COMMUTER CARD PROGRAM.

THEY DO NOT FULLY DISCLOSE THEIR POLICIES AND THEY DO NOT GIVE ANY REFUNDS TO THE COMMUTER.   ALL REFUNDS GO BACK TO THE EMPLOYER!

Thank you for reading this report.

Sincerely.

LK
