Nestle Purina's Waggin Train Chicken Tenders, which is currently under FDA investigation, poisoned 2 of my dogs - one border collie mix, one lab mix, both over 65lbs each.
These dogs received one treat per day. Eventually one dog became visibly ill and ended up in ICU for 3 days... she was stabilized with meds and returned home. We ran blood work on her sister who showed extremely elevated liver enzymes and is now also on meds. The first dog relapsed and was back in ICU for 4 days, at deaths door. She finally stabilized and is now on 6 different meds and a home cooked diet.
Nestle Purina REFUSES to issue a voluntary, precautionary recall until the FDA investigation is complete, allowing hundreds of more dogs to fall ill or die... they do this KNOWINGLY. They blame the dog owners. They MIGHT offer to pay a portion of a vet bill in exchange for a NON DISCLOSURE contract.
I am now part of a grass roots movement calling for the manufacturers to halt sales of this dangerous product. Also under investigation is Canyon Creek Ranch, also a Nestle Purina label and Milo's Kitchen from Del Monte - however, many other brands are implicated - it's all the same imported jerky from China.

why I know

I have, oops HAD 4 dogs. On 2/29/12 2 of my dogs got a Waggin Train treat from the old bag, 2 from the new bag. On Friday I woke 2 my two dogs who have gotten their ONE treat apiece from the new bag vomitting, listless, and obviously sick. By noon, my female had stopped and could keep water down. BJ, her son, got steadily worse. The vet said give it 24 hours.
Saturday AM he was MUCH worse. Long story short. His blood test showed his kidneys, liver and pancreas were not functioning. His heart stopped Sunday morning, CPR given by the vet could not revive him. He was 2 1/2 years old, otherwise active and healthy. I have NO doubt of what killed him. My other two dogs did not get sick at all!! BJ was 33 lbs and got 1 treat a day for over a year. Well below their feeding guidelines for his size.
Feeding your dogs ANY jerky at this point is irresponsible. Labels don't mean they are really made in the USA by the way. Labeling laws for pet products are pretty lax.

Thanks for the reply, pretty scary stuff.
I will do some reading too. In the meantime, however, I will not be giving my dog any chicken tenders. We have some from another brand but they are made in China too.
I won't take a chance and we'll just use another type of treat, it's not like it's critical that we use these.
Thanks for the report, this is a good use of Ripoffreport.

Completely fair question. Firstly, my vet. My vet had seen 2 other cases before mine and knew the symptoms. Second, when you rule out EVERYTHING else - and I mean every test possible - you are left with the truth. I have 3 dogs - only 2 dogs had the product and they are both affected with nearly identical labs - only one dog was more susceptible and suffered much worse - this is also the reason why some dogs die and some survive. Finally, this is a KNOWN issue - the FDA knows, the manufacturers know... it's the general public that doesn't know - and pays the price.

This is an honest question.
As a dog owner myself, how do you know it was the chicken tenders and not something else?
Not being critical at all, I just wonder.
