i bought a big screen tv  1300.00!!!! and hey i was smart i bought an extra 5 year warranty (for another 200.00) on top of walmarts 1 year warranty...and my tv lasted 2 and a half years before it totally blew up! it has come to my attention that walmart bought these (mexican) tv's for about 100 bucks and resold them to there loyal customers for over a grand knowing that the warranties would not be honored (you only get the run-around from the employees and rca) and now i'm out over 1500.00!! i've looked on the internet and have seen 100's of people just like me out of a tv and out of their money! i dont understand why there isnt a class action law suit against walmart and rca!i'm disabled and only get 694.00 a month to live on..and walmart just smiles and gives me the finger all at the same time...is anyone going to help us?  walmart and rca should be ashamed of themselves  and quit bragging about all they do for their communities (theyre taking money from the disabled by ripping them off and giving back to the community?) WOW WHAT A COMPANY!  when is this gonna stop walmart? rca? i want my money back dammit!! dont try to trade me a new tv for this piece of junk you sold me  give me back my d**n money and i'll go elsewhere and buy a good tv!!

That this case does not have to do with being disabled. Unless the service plan clearly states there are different policies for the disabled, then all of us have the same coverage if we decide to purchase the plan. Of course I have compassion for anyone who is disabled, and it would be nice if Walmart took this into consideration, but they won't and legally do not have to.

Now up for debate is if this plan covers 5 years, I can only find 2 and 3 year plans on any search I conduct.

Also up for debate is whether or not Walmart is making good on the plan. Does the plan state you get a refund 2 and a half years later if the set goes bad? Does the plan state anywhere that you get a refund if the set goes bad after 2 and a half years if you are disabled and/or on a fixed income?

Does the plan state the set will be repaired or replaced under this plan? Does the plan state that if the set needs to be replaced, that you get the same exact brand name, or does it simply state it is to be replaced with a set of equal or similar features and specifications?

Are they living up to their end as per what is stated in the plan, or not?

As far as RCA, you might find it interesting to note, that Televisions marketed under the RCA name are made by the TCL corporation in Huizhou, Guangdong Province in Southern China. Yes, RCA is nothing but a marketing name now, it is the same cancer causing crap made in China by children that everything else electronic is these days. Welcome to the 21st century. Am I happy about this? No. But I can get a TV cheap now if I look on the bright side..

Let me see: you had direct contact with the Wal-Mart buyer for TV's close to the time of purchase and he/she personally told you the price they paid for these.  Hmmm.  Brilliant.


You purchased a "5-year extended warranty."  From whom?  Wal-mart has only been selling plus 2 years in the stores for quite a while and plus 3 years is only available on their website.  fyi - most "5-year" plans at retailers are from date of purchase, overlapping mfr.


RCA has been outsourcing the manufacturing of TV's for years.  Many other mfr plants happen to be in Mexico as well.


Let's face it - you bought an RCA for price only.  no research.  you purchased some extended warranty and you're not even aware of its contents or terms and conditions.  Brilliant.


The fact that you are on a fixed income and disabled is irrelevant.  sympathy or lack thereof derives from the facts.

not just an ordinary TV you can pick up at the goodwill for 15 dollars or a $25 dollar TV since their practically giving away the old type CRT TV's.  NO you must have a large plasma or LCD model because that is what you can't live without and besides, the taxpayers are footing the bill.

GROW UP and start living within your means!

Wrong.  Being disabled has NOTHING to do with this except to try for sympathy.  As there are many people who would scrimp and save as well in order to buy a TV who are not disabled.


So taking your disability out of it.  You bought a TV with a 1 Year mfg warranty and it lasted 2.5 years.  So the manufacturer is out of the loop.  Now, you bought a 5 year extended waranty through Walmart.  If Walmart is not fixing/replacing your TV per the terms of the warranty you have a vaild complaint.


For that you need to read the terms of the Warranty and follow up with them.  But don't expect your money back, I have never seen a warranty that gives you a refund if the item is broken.  The closest you would probably get is credit toward another TV, again IF that is part of that warranty terms. 


I would be curious as to what was wrong with the TV, didn't turn on, damaged screen..etc?  Then what resolution they offered you.  Or if they didn't offer any, what was the reason they gave you.

maybe other people can afford to go out and buy another tv..but being disabled i only get 694.00 dollars a month and cant afford to do it! thats what being dosabled has to do with it. maybe you dont think thats a big deal? i finally saved up enough to finally buy what i thought was a good tv good brand name..rca was a good brand name when i was growing up but then i looked at all the folks that got ripped off by walmart and rca..i wish i would have found this rip-off report before i bought it..

It really bothers me when people throw the disabled or race card into these events. What walmart payed for the TV does not have anything to do with this at all. You purchased the TV and you should have done your research ahead of time. If you did not do any research then it is not walmart's fault its yours.

As far as being disabled this also has nothing to do with walmart or this story.

The only part of this post that is relavant is if the extended warranty fixed your set or not and did you handle the claim according to the written policy on the extended warranty.

If you followed the proper procedures and the warranty denied fixing the TV then you have a valid compliant on that part only. If you feel the warranty company did you wrong then retain a lawyer and file a lawsuit against them.
