I went into the photo lab to pick up my pictures. I wrote a check at this location, like I always do, and have done for several years. They said my check was declined, and that their verification service 'Certigy' declined it. They gave me a 800 number to call Certigy. I called them right there, in front of the assistant manager. Certigy told me that they had not declined the check, in fact they had approved it without any problems. When I told this to the assistant manager, (mind you, i'm upset inside, but being calm about this) she said i don't need your bulls**t about your damned check, if the registert says it's delcined, it's declined! I apologized and told her i'm just trying to clear this up, and she said 'get the hell outta my store before I get someone to remove you. You d*mn complaining customers just get on my nerves!". At this point, I called customer service, during regular hours, and got a recording saying that they were busy, and to leave my name and number, and someone would call me back. No-one has called.
I e-mailed the company through the website, I haven't heard back from them either. I tried calling Certigy again to see if they could help, and they said since they had approved my check, there was nothing they could do. I am not upset about the check being declined, rather I am upset about the way that the manager of a store I have shopped at for a long time, handeled this situation. There is another walgreens about 1/2 mile away that I will be shopping at from now on, even though it is out of my way.

#9 UPDATE Employee
One bad apple...
AUTHOR: Kitty - (U.S.A.)
SUBMITTED: Monday, August 11, 2008
First off, I -am- an employee of walgreens. I have been for over 4 years. So first let me start off with this. The only complaints we tend to get at my store are the mismarked/non-ringing ACCIDENTAL prices, which we always refund with a receipt. The only other complaints are from our local scam artists from milwaukee.
With that being said, I'm sorry for the way that manager acted towards you. I personally am a Beauty adviser and a Photo Tech, and no matter what anyone says. We don't tolerate rudeness to customers. And people have gotten fired at MY location for that. Unfortunately bad news spreads faster than good, and you can't tell a bad person from a good until something bad happens.
There will always be good people, and there will always be bad. I do hope that you take your business to another walgreens though, that manager that you dealt with deserves to be fired.
My manager is a (most times) nice, sincere, caring lady. We were almost a 24 hour store, except our entraces got closed off to cross traffic from hte city cause we were too busy!
As I said on another ripoff report, we have people go past a few walgreens to come to mine. If you're ever in Oak Creek, WI, feel free to stop by the Howell and Ryan Walgreens to see some good customer service.

A different experience with Walgreen
AUTHOR: Clifford - (U.S.A.)

Just for a little balance. I use the Walgreen in our small town in Michigan and they do a great job. Friendly, helpful and easy to deal with.
Of course here come the comments that I work for them. NOT.
Maybe it's the small town attitude and atmosphere but people seem a little less tense in general.

#7 UPDATE EX-employee responds
about the check issue
AUTHOR: Exemployee18 - (U.S.A.)
SUBMITTED: Wednesday, February 20, 2008
Yes I know this is not the issue, but I am a banking center manager and believe me when I tell you using a debit card is much more safer than a check. The debit card is protected by the credit fraud department as a check is not. Sure you can do a stop payment on a check but nowadays checks are imaged and can be processed the same day so doing a stop doesnt help you. Plus if someone uses a check fraudently you have to file a police report and have the bank notarize a stated affadavit of what happened. Believe me when I tell you it is not worth it!

Hi all - I just filed a ripoff report about an INSANELY rude and disguting Walgreens employee in NH and I will NEVER shop there again. I searched this site to see what other reports have been filed on them & adm not surprised to see so many!
So yes let's all BAN them -- I know for sure I will never step foot in that lame, rude, dirty cheap store again.

Instead of going back to Walgreens take your business somewhere else
AUTHOR: Daniel - (U.S.A.)
SUBMITTED: Saturday, July 29, 2006
Again, yet another reason why Walgreens is going very bad. And I am going to give you the reason why you should take your business somewhere.
That assistant manager that you used that language. Rather than getting punished, they will get promoted. That is the Walgreens way now. Make customer's experience good you either get fired or not promoted or stuck in a dead-end job. Tick some customers off, you will get promoted. Try to do the right thing, get fired 5 days before Christmas. Do the wrong thing, you get to be a manager of a 24-hour store.
And the problem lies in Deerfield, Illinois. Deerfield encourages this behavior. Their first concern is money and trying to milk every single dollar from you and me because of those high prices. They are not concern about the customers. Which is why you have not and most likely will not recieve a response from them.
Here is my suggestion: DO NOT SHOP AT WALGREENS, take your business else where and tell your friends, write a letter. HECK, try to get the media involved!
If enough people start doing this, then the Board of Directors are going to have to look at the CEO and COO and if profits are not good, then they will ask for their resignation.
It is time to start calling people on the carpet for this behavior. I have started and it is time for other people to start!

OK, Let's get off of the check debate and on to what the real problem is.
AUTHOR: Stephen - (U.S.A.)
SUBMITTED: Tuesday, July 25, 2006
As you should have noticed, my problem was not in my check being declined, but, in the way it was handeled. I am not pissed because my check was declined, I am pissed about the attitude and the way I was treated by a member of management of a walgreens.
BTW: I have ACH turned off on my account. Any attempts to use it will be declined, unless I notify the bank of a specific transaction first.

Harder with a check?
AUTHOR: Robert - (U.S.A.)
SUBMITTED: Tuesday, July 25, 2006
All one needs is an ACH machine, or a Hypercom with check debit abilities, and manually enter the routing number and account number(both found on the check) and enter any amount you want.
If I make a payment by telephone to someone, that's all they are doing. Call the mortgage company and try it. They ask for your routing number, and account number. They assign a check number themselves.
It's much harder to zap someone with a check card. When they ask "credit or debit?", tell them credit. I never use my PIN with mine.

The reason I don't use a debit card.
AUTHOR: Stephen - (U.S.A.)
SUBMITTED: Monday, July 24, 2006
Since the advent of the debit card, I have had my number stolen 3 times, by personnell at stores I have shopped at. THIS is whi I use checks. Identity theft is a hell of a lot harder to do off of a check, considering you can stop a check where you cannot stop a debit transaction. Also, when you use a check, you get your money back on fraud transactions instead of having to lose the first $50. Maybe you should look 'backwards' a little bit when you look forwards, and see that some of the older ways of doing things may still be the better way. As for joining 'this century', I am an I.T. professional for a bank, and I know what goes on behind the scenes. Maybe you should take my advice....

Who uses checks anymore??
AUTHOR: Peter - (U.S.A.)
SUBMITTED: Monday, July 24, 2006
Who uses checks anymore?? Get with this century and use your debit card to pay instead of a check. It is faster, easier, allows you to track your purchases more conveniently, and does not require special approval procedures like a paper check does.
As for the store "declining" your check ... that is their right to do so for any reason. As for how to avoid such a situation in the future, refer to the previous paragraph.
