Beware! Not all places will take these cards online, but when you try to place the order it will put the money “on hold” for min 10 days and up to months.

I bought this card because I got a good discount on gas. When I tried to use it at Bloomingdales (online) it would not go through and charged my card 3 times. When I called they said they could not release the funds for 10 days.

I purchased something at Lord and Taylor, the same thing happened. It charged my card three times. Lord and Taylor said they do not accept the card. Green Dot bank held the money for 13 days.

I think they are keeping the money to earn interest on it. Also, anytime you cancel a transaction or someone like a hotel puts an auth code on the card they hold the money for weeks.

Both companies told me to get a fax number for the bank they will send paperwork showing they will not use the funds. Green Dot Bank said they would not give me information and I must wait the whole time to get the money back.

When I asked them why it was 10 days then, 13 days. They told me it could take up to months depending on what company put the hold on the money. They refused to let me talk to a supervisor each time I called. WATCH OUT!

 the last rebuttal is incorrect. it is on greendot bank's end. this is a very common problem with the greendot cards. it is greendots hold on the money. especially after that store settles their credit transactions for the day. 24 hours is the longest your money should ever be held for a situation like this. then customer service is never any help. they use whatever means necessary to keep your money. i cannot believe corporations are allowed to do business this way in america.

is mostly with the other companies, not Green Dot. The companies should make it very apparent that they do not acept Green Dot as payment. Additionally, the only way for the transaction to be charged/held three times is if you or the company processes it three times. Grenn Dot approved the transactions, that's why there's a hold. The company is at fault for letting you use the card to check out and then tell you they don't accept it. The company could easily post online that they don't accept Green Dot and/or have their system programmed that when you submit a Green Dot card number it comes back saying they don't take it without requesting the approval from Green Dot and creating the holds.

As far as the length of time the transactions are on hold, that's pretty standard for the banking industry. This is an inconveniance caused by the other companies but not a rip off by Green Dot.

And, before you post the claim, no I don't work for Green Dot.
