Pregnancy no excuse to fire no matter what

AUTHOR: Steven - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Tuesday, February 19, 2008

Unless you were trying to exploit your pregnancy and using it for excuses for coming in late or not coming in at all there is no reason why they should have fired you (I would think if this was the case you would not be given the option of reapplying after your pregnancy). You are legally entitled to take time off thru the FMLA which you should have been given the option to apply for. You should check into that as well when you are calling upper management.

What?

Sabrina,

What position were you working? It may explaing why you were terminated. For example, as a stocker, you would've been worthless to the company. However, a cashier may have still been able to work until birth.

Fired for Pregnancy

AUTHOR: Flutterby - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Thursday, February 07, 2008

I used to work for Walmart but quit because of they way they treated their employees. They CANNOT fire you for being pregnant and this is what you should do. Call the Distract Manager and the Regional Manager for the department you worked in. Tell them that you were fired because you were pregnant. If no results come of that then please....get a lawyer. I can promise you that you would win in court because having a baby is not a legal excuse to fire anyone. Your work abilities might have changed a bit but that is no excuse for termination.

In the Walmart I worked in no one would have ever been fired for something like that. If anything they could have transfered you if you couldn't do the work required of you in any given department. Walmart managers are not highly trained. They don't know they law and some of them don't even have high school diplomas. Don't think they can't make mistakes.

Go back to your manager...

get it in writing why he is firing you.
Then, GET AN ATTORNEY!
Even if he won't give you it in writing that he is firing you because of your pregnancy, consult an attorney anyway! You will almost definitely be able to find an attorney that will take fees out of whatever settlement you may get.
