My wife and I have purchased tires for our vehicles at Walmart in Tomah 3 times now. On every occasion we returned home to see a charge on our receipt for $8.01 per tire. This charge is for the "optional" tire protection plan. What is the tire protection plan you may ask? Good question. Wish I knew.
We were never asked about a tire protection plan and had no idea it was being added to our bill without our permission.
Each time this has happened we have contacted management and explained the situation. They returned our money the first two times and we were told that "we have to be asked if we want the plan and that this will never happen again".
3 out of 3. This is in our household of 2 people. I wonder how many times a year this happens to other people?
We are still waiting for the money and getting the "run around" on the 3rd instance. I find it hard to believe that this has happened by accident every time we have purchased from them.
My wife has also been told and actually had to sign a waiver that there was no oil in her car when she arrived at the store on more than one occasion. They said "it's pretty common with Saturns". I know this is bull as I checked the oil myself before she drove the 20 minutes to the store. It is also a new car and there are no signs of oil leaking anywhere. Perhaps it just burns 5 qts. of oil in 15 miles. "Check the gas and fill the oil please" I think they were just trying to cover their butts.
Check your receipts my friends!! Don't let them sneak an extra charge in on you. Trust me... they will.
I will personally never shop at Walmart for anything ever again!
Thanks for listening.

hey john
i worked at that store, and yes its 9.76 to have your tires mounted, balanced and new valve stems put in, also included is free flat repairs, road hazard warranty and free lifetime rotate and balance. do you know you can go to any walmart nationwide and have coverage on anything that might happen to your tires. There are like 2000 TLE's in the united states alone. thats like 2000 best friends when traveling to help you out. have you ever used the protection plan if you have you probably wouldnt be writing a complaint like this

Just wanted to explain to you what the $8.01 fee is and how it all breaks down. When some people come in Wal-Mart to buy tires they take them and have them put on somewhere else. Because of this Wal-Mart does not include installation in the price of the tire.
If you buy tires Wal-mart, they mount them for free and it is $7.50 to balance and you then have no warranty on your tire, except for lifetime rotate and balance; however, if you pay &.51 more (thus 8.01), you can have lifetime rotate and balance, free flat repair, and road hazard warranty, which is all good at any wal-mart store nation wide.
In my experience at the store that I work at, most people do not want to pass up the warranty simply because it is only $.51 more and the fact that is good nation wide (you have to have your paper work to show). As far as the Road Hazard Warranty, it covers a factory defect, a flat that cannot be repaired, or a blow out, Wal-Mart goes by the tread depth of the tire and pro-rates a new one based on how much of the tread is gone. The first 25% is free (sometimes you still have to pay governmental fees, this varies from state).
It seemed that the store that you had went to did not try to explain it to you, so I thought I could maybe help you a little bit. Just remember that not all stores are the same and while you do come across some that are awful, there are some that have very good workers that know what they are doing.

Have tire protection on all tires on all 4 of my cars. The last one was a lease vehicle that had 2 tires go bad 1 month before I turned it in and got 4 new tires for $200 instead of $800. The last 4 cars I've had, have had tire(s) destroyed that had been covered. Some new federal regulation about what can and can't be patched or repaired. They usually include lifetime balance and repair at little or no charge, but not always. Just make sure and keep your paperwork.(2)Last day or so someone posted about their Saturn motor burning up or something, the 10,000mi between oil change person. Their complaint was about the engine and oil changes. If my mechanic was lying to me I'd find a new mechanic. The waiver sounds like a CYA form for Walmart. Maybe they know something about Saturns that we don't. Good luck.
