Beware of the cashier who scans an item, puts it on her register pretending that it didn't go through then scans it again. I should have realized something was up when she did that and the alarm rang when I went out the door.

Unfortunately I didn't notice she had charged me twice until I got home and there was nothing I could do to prove that I was charged for one item twice. And that's the second time it's happened to me at a Walmart store.

Proof

AUTHOR: Ghostryder - (United States of America)

POSTED: Tuesday, October 05, 2010

The store can usually prove that you were charged twice.

All cashiers have cameras directy above their station, video can be reviewed if they suspect you are making a false claim.

Walmart also uses an on-count computer controlled inventory system for sales, claims and re-ordering of products. They can review the count for the particular item you have claimed to be double scanned and make a determination this way, although not fool proof because of store theft by unrelated persons.

Walmart will usually offer a store credit for the amount double charged if it isn't a high priced item because they would like to retain you as a customer.

Always be pro-active when you purchase something, check your receipt and count your change, nothing is foolproof.

Come on it's Wal-Mart

AUTHOR: LiLjiLL - (United States of America)

First off why didn't you say something while you were actually there or save the receipt? Second off I'm almost positive the only way an alarm goes off is if you're trying to steal something and they're watching or it's an expensive item and they didn't take the security tag off. How dumb are you also to let it happen multiple times? Like the other fellow said, they're not looking to rip you off, they probably make their $8.50 an hour and work a 6 hour day. Also you only need a high school diploma or GED to work there so I'm pretty sure most of them aren't highly intellectual so maybe they just didn't notice or they're behind on their math skills, if you're such a bright person why don't you point the issue out? Unless you're also just one of those $8.50 an hour non salary losers who also can't seem to calculate math at the register considering you paid the amount they said.

We are not scammers

I am a cashier at the Plaistow Walmart and I also work on the service desk so when we double scan something we usally error correct it. In this case i would say the cashier probly didn't think they scanned the item it happens. You could have called the store and talked to someone at the service desk and we would have told you to come back in with the reciept and we would have returned you what you were charged for that you didn't get. As a caishier and a service desk associate i refund alot of double charges so for you to say we are ripping you off is wrong we make misstakes we're only human. Not our fault you thought we wouldn't do anything because we would have. I am sorry you got double charged but it happens you should have just called.

Do you wear a tinfoil hat?

AUTHOR: Shelby - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Sunday, September 25, 2005

When you left the store and the alarm sounded THAT made you wonder if something was amiss with your purchases? That alarm is a theft prevention measure. If something that you had purchased did not have the anti-theft tag de-activated at the register then the alarm goes off. It was a simple mistake that it was not removed/de-activated.

When the cashier attempted to ring up a item, failed to do so and you were suspicious did you not look before leaving the store to see if infact that item was rang twice?

If this is the second time this has happened at Wal-Mart would give you even more reason to check your reciept. Did you call and explain to them what happened?

If you would have addressed the issue in the store then I am sure Wal-Mart would have take care of the it.

Audit every item being scanned

AUTHOR: Richard - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Sunday, September 25, 2005

Next time you go to the store..any store, keep an eye on every item being scanned. Mistakes do happen and sometime scanners will double (or not) scan. It happened to me and I simply brought it to the cashier's attention. No big deal. Check your receipt before leaving. No disappointment after a long trip home. It can happen in any store.

why would they want to scam you?

AUTHOR: Melissa - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Friday, September 02, 2005

I don't see why a walmart cashier would want to scam you on purpose. It's not like they make commission. And since most cashiers just stand at a register all shift and ring people up, I doubt they have a sales goal they have to hit or something.

Mistakes do happen. It does suck to be the person that the mistake happens to, but you can't expect perfection. What matters is the response you get when it happens, such as an apology. I live 30 minutes away from walmart, and I have been credited for a double charge on my next weekly visit before. No problems, no hassle.

Get a clue about cashiers.

AUTHOR: C - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Thursday, June 16, 2005

If you think a minimum wage cashier at Wal-mart really cares enough to rip you off, think again. Cashiers do not get commission; this means that they have *nothing to gain* by overcharging you.

Registers are fickle machines. It's very common for a cashier to flip an item over, turn it around, and shake it over the scanner before it will ring up, only to have it double-scan while she is putting the item in the bag.

You do not give enough details to draw any real conclusions about what happened. What was the item? Did the cashier actually tell you it didn't scan? Did it occur to you to check your receipt before leaving the store? Why did the alarm ring after the item was deactivated TWICE?

Customer service workers will almost assuredly believe you when you tell them you were charged twice for an item, just because it happens so often. Bring your receipt to the desk and get a refund, and keep your conspiracy theories to yourself. I guarantee that cashier didn't give a rat's patootie about how much you spent at Wal-mart.

Oh Please, mistakes happen

AUTHOR: Denny - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Thursday, June 16, 2005

Oh please, mistakes happen. That is MORE likely than a cashier scheming all day on her feet at a register to double scan an item to rip you off.

Some times items have two barcodes, and the computer was inputed for both. She could have scanned it twice by accident? Maybe the scanner just messed up at that time?

Please, keep your conspiracy theories at home, or at least where a tin foiled hat before going outside.
