My experience with this company has been horrific. I was with Providian first and then saw it was going to WaMu which I thought would be fine. I paid our entire balance off at the beginning of the year but found myself in need of buying a radiator for my truck. So after checking my balance to be sure it was still in the good and nothing was wrong I purchased my radiator for $281. Mind you I had checked hours before by phone with an available credit of $2500. At the end of the month I get my statement to find that they had lowered my credit to $280.00 making me overlimit therefore charging me overlimit fees as well as raised my interest rate to 26.74%. I was outraged. I called to find out what was going on and I get "we can do that if we want to based on a review of your credit report". Now I am fine with raising my interest rate because I could have just not used that card. Why they raised my rate is beyond me because my score was actually higher than before. What I am not fine with is them lowering my credit to just below the amount I charged therefore giving them the extra fees. I requested a closure of the account but since I still had a balance they denied it. Thank goodness I only owe a very small amount and will most assuredly be closing this account just as quickly as it is paid off. I also as recently as a week ago asked could they not lower my interest rate with an answer that I'm sure they give everyone of "based on the credit report review we cannot at this time but be sure and try again in 6 months". Yeah right...like I am going to let them keep dragging my score down by checking my credit every few months. For anyone that has a card with these people....CUT IT UP!

Re: Good Customer?

AUTHOR: Pete - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Tuesday, July 29, 2008

Steven,

You obviously have never been a customer of WaMu. I had the same thing happen to me. I had a credit limit of $16,000 with an interest rate of %9.25 and had a balance of $850 when I got a letter from them saying "Do to reports from 'other' creditors, Washington Mutual will be raising the interest rate to %29.9 and lowereing your credit limit to $850"

I have no idea who the "other" creditors were, but I have not been late on payments, I always pay more than the minimum and use credit cards as little as possible.

When I called them to find out why they had done this, their response was "Because we can."

I paid off my account with them and cut up the card. I will NEVER use them again.

Good customer??????

AUTHOR: Steven - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Wednesday, July 23, 2008

Let me see. You paid off the balance at the beginning of the year and they lowered your limit from 2500 to 280. I don't think so. Why such an odd amount. Least I've seen a credit card go to is 500 dollars. For the most part usually around 800 dollars. Next question 26.74 interest???? You are clearly not a GOOD customer. What was your rate before???? Find it hard to believe they lowered your limit without good reason for being a good customer. They usually raise it as well as lower your rate.

File a formal complaint with the Office of Thrift Supervision

AUTHOR: Laurie - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Wednesday, July 23, 2008

WAMU will never fix it unless forced by filing a formal complaint with the Office of Thrift Supervision. They will not fix your issue unless you report them. Also be aware they will lie to you over and over again and even lie in their response to the OTS, which is illegal.

As far as I know filing the complaint with the OTS is the only reason the issue I had was resolved in my favor. I did advise the OTS that WAMU perjured themselves in the written response but doubt anything was done about it

I had different problems with them and they will lie and cheat you out of your money.

Remember that they are one of the biggest banks caught up in the sub-prime mortgage mess and they are making their GOOD customers pay for their bad business decisions.
