The Condylox cream that my doctor gave me seems to not work – so I searched for an alternative treatment online. I purchased a bottle of Wartrin in anticipation of getting rid of my genital warts. I applied it a few times a day, and wala! no difference. Nothing happened!
But things did not stop there, after using it for 2 days I felt dizzy. The skin area where I applied felt itchy and swelling. My roommate keeps asking me if I was okay due to a sudden eye irritation. I had to skip class to stay in my room. Finally I decidely to wash off wartrin with soap and take Benadryl. I did feel better but that was scary.
I visited my doctor the next day and showed him wartrin. He said it is likely a scam. The salicylic acid used in wartrin could be low-graded. In fact, FDA has warned about salicylic acid in wart removers and acne products because it might cause severe reaction like what happened to me (http://www.fda.gov/ForConsumers/ConsumerUpdates/ucm402441.htm).
I also did some research and Wartrin is neither approved nor registered with FDA. To confirm I called the FDA phone number (1-866-300-4374) and they have no registered record of Wartrin. I open a case with the agent and hopefully the government can do something about it.
In the end, I have to admit. My family doctor was right. I was scammed.
