Beware, if you have a website for business or pleasure!
The scam: A rep from Websitepros will call you.
This rep will tell you that your website is
not optimized. This Websitepros rep will tell you that he/she has looked at your site and your website is not optimized because of meta tags, or this or that.
This Websitepros rep will tell you that they will optimize your website for free for 30 days and all you need to do to cancel is call within this time period.
This Websitepros rep will tell you that their company actually pays Yahoo to put your site in the first pages.
This Websitepros rep will "assure" you that you will see "immediate" results.
This Websitepros rep will again "assure" you that if you call withing 30 days to cancel, you will not be billed a dime.
The facts:
My wife received a call from a Websitepros rep giving her the above mentioned boloney. However, at the time, my wife thought that Websitepros was in fact an honest company. So, she decided to try it for free 30 days and agreed to pay the $50.00 a month on her Discover Card if she liked the service.
Within two weeks my wife noticed that Websitepros had not done a d**n thing on her website promotion. When my wife did call, two weeks into this scam, the rep from Websitepros told her that she would have to fix her meta tags herself, and that they only had to tell her that the "tags were not good."
Now, three weeks into this scam, my wife saw that Websitepros still had not done a d**n thing to "optimize" her website, or anything else for that matter. So, she called Website pros to cancel before the 30 days would expire.
Next, when this "30 day free service" from Websitepros expired, they charged my wife's credit card for $50.00! How did this happen you ask? All Websitepros had to do was claim they didn't have a "Cancel Order in their files."
Websitepros will not refund my wife's credit card for the $50.00 they stole from her. Everytime my wife calls Websitepros to try and get her money back, she gets another run-around from the company. She gets a multitude of BS stories from Websitepros. "Oh, we processed the refund." "Oh, you can't get your money back until two or three billing cycles have gone by." "Oh, if you had only called to cancel, this would not have happened." And, blah blah blah.
The bottome line:
Websitepros is a scam internet company.
Final thought:
Websitepros is a bulls**t company, and it was worth the $50.00 to see it posted on Ripoffreport.com

We all know how confusing things can be to "busy" people. Unfortunately the person leaving this complaint has mixed several different components of several different program offerings from a very respected and reputable company and as a result made themselves look entirely foolish to anyone who understands business, the Internet and/or Internet marketing. Based on the verbiage that was chosen also indicates the reliability of the source.
Please leave slanderous, ridiculous and ignorant accusations out and stick to the real facts. It is glaringly obvious that the complainant here had no clue what they purchased or what the terms and conditions were.
These types of forums are wonderful to assist consumers in avoiding potential scams and rip-offs; they should not be used as an un-moderated opportunity for the ignorant to liable reputable businesses. Check the companies website if there are questions.

Meta Tags, Website pros and misinformation

Actually, meta tags play a very important role in SEO (Search Engine Optimization.) Before making unfounded statements that confuse people, do your research.
http://www.wordsinarow.com/seo.html
There's also a book written by Jennifer Laycock called the Small Business Guide to Search Engine Marketing. very good resource, but a little spendy. Worth the potential return, however.
Also, if you decide to go with one of these search engine optimization companies, make sure they don't use words like "Guaranteed placement, Guaranteed results within a couple of weeks etc." No one can guarantee that you'll get the top rankings unless you elect to pay for "Pay per click" advertising, where you pay per click when someone is going to your page.
Bottom line, do your research and see if a company actually has an optimization program from a major search engine. ie: Yahoo, Google.

Meta tags

In todays world, meta tags are almost useless as the major search engines use "bots" to go out and seek other sites, they don't use meta tags anymore.
Just my 6 cents worth (2 cents adjusted for inflation and the price of crude)

I am a very satisfied customer of websitepros
AUTHOR: Patricia - (U.S.A.)

I have been a customer of websitepros for over a year now. They offer a plethora of webservices, at extremely affordable rates. As for me I do have what is called a "complete package" which includes a website. Origionally I signed up for "Visibility Online", which is also what the above gentelmans wife signed up for. I too was under the impression that they would "optimize" a website that was existing at the time, a website that was not built by them. However, after calling customer service, I came to the conclusion that websitepros can not change source codes and optomize sites that are not hosted on their server. Since my existing designer would have charged me and arm and a leg to put the stuff into my source code that should have been there anyway, I discontinued with the Visibility package and went with the Complete package, which not only includes the hosting and marketing, but it includes a search engine friendly site that they gave me at no charge. I can edit my own site, I can see where traffic is coming from, and MOST IMORTANTLY, I am actually marketing my business online. It is unfortunate that this gentleman didn't have the same experience. Sometimes people don't understand what they are purchasing. My experience has been nothing but pleasant, thank you websitepros!!
