My car was repossessed, I contacted Wells Fargo Acceptance Corp, my finance company, the next day and made arrangements to pay. 5 days later I paid all fee's via Quick Collect Wire Transfer. I immediately called them to report payment and also faxed them all relevant documents(insurance, DL,wire transfer confirmation, etc..) I was told it would take an additional 24-48 hours to process(???)I asked if I was responsible for additional storage after paying all fees. Of course I was. No surprise there.

The next morning after several calls to WFFA I was told that everything was in order and to go ahead and pick up the car. They gave me the tow/storage facility information and a couple of hours later I called them for directions and costs, and was very surprised to find out that WFFA had had the car moved to a different yard the day before.(the SAME day I paid all fees and informed them by phone and fax.) Also San Diego Auto Recovery had no idea where it had been taken, although my personal possessions were still there.(???)

I called WFFA back and the lady who I had been dealing with(who was very nice, polite and helpful)Ronni G. had no idea what I was talking about. So I was getting kind of pissed and concerned about the car. I sat on hold for many minutes, she came back on and told me the car had been moved the day before(DUH!), No notes had been posted, but they were there now. (After I told her!) She said she didn't know where the car was, but would call me back. I asked who was responsible for ordering the move and if I could contact that person to find out where my car was taken and why, She couldn't give me that information. I then asked If I was expected to pay for the new and completely unnecessary towing fees and storage and was told yes.

The first tow and storage I had no problem with,(I didn't like it) I was responsible for the payment, I let it get behind and there you go. However this one I have a big problem with. The car was moved AFTER I reported payment in full. I was told by SD Auto recovery. that WFFA tells them how much to charge for tow and storage, it is up to them, so it is totally arbitrary, they charge what they want, and an extra tow that cost them 50-100 bucks or whatever can cost the consumer 2 or 3 times that. There is no choice but to pay.

In my opinion this is definitely a rip-off. I am actually waiting to find out where my car is as I am posting this. While waiting I went online to see what's out there RE: WFFA and found this site. At least I get to vent, Thanks.

We had to have an appointment to pick up the car. we arrived 30 minutes early (Because of So Cal AM traffic we left early) checked in and waited...and waited. The guy the "appointment" was with said a lot attendant was bringing up some cars and mine was one of them. We asked every 30 minutes until 3 hours passed. I was kinda hanging near the front desk, and overheard someone say "Who's Paying for the detail on that ****?" We decided to go look around. This place is huge, acres. Luckily we spotted it in the auction prep area, totally detailed with a stock number and all, ready to be auctioned.

Now I was pissed. I had done everything exactly as I needed to. In return I was deceived by their Representative and Certified Letter that I could pick up the car Wednesday at the tow yard it was originally taken to, while (it seems) they were on the phone with the auction place at the same time arranging a pick up. I was told I had to wait 24-48 hours for info and wire transfer I sent to be "verified" to buy them time to have my car carnapped!

I had to find out myself where it was sent, I was informed I would be charged for the extra pick up and 200 mile tow, I was told by this auction place that I had to wait longer to pick up the car, and then given an appointment time after being reassured many times that I would absolutely be able to pick it up that day at that time, that EVERYTHING was in order , not to worry etc..I was there on time and was treated disrespectfully by being made to wait 3 hours with no good explanation. I find my car being prepped for auction with a sticker on the rear-view that says 'Auction Prep'. Enough!

So..
My car is now safely in my garage where it legally belongs. I am a payment ahead with WF who's name should really be MF. The registration, insurance, is up to date. NOW I am sure that everything is in order.

One good thing. It is certainly looking good. Cleaned, shined, waxed, and shampooed. It looks new again.

Guess I was lucky

AUTHOR: Lori - (U.S.A.)

Wells Fargo repo'd my car too but I got lucky. They didn't send it that far away but the repo/storage fee was outrageous. Of course, they financed some of those fees and added them on to the end of my note!

Just another way for them to make money. If I could refinance my car with another company, I would do it in a heartbeat.

Response

I didn't think that they would be that underhanded. I must still be a bit naive. My car is a very nice convertible with low miles. It is worth more than I owe. Going to the yard and making sure that it is in fact on hold is a good idea. I was assured by Southern California Auto Auctions that it will not be sold tomorrow and will not even be in public view. After this experience I can't just take someones word. :(

As for reporting it stolen, the finance company reports to the police as soon as the car is in their possession. The police won't act on that. Thanks for the suggestion though.

Thursday Auction

AUTHOR: J - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Wednesday, October 11, 2006

If I were you, I would attend the Thursday auction. I am betting that your car is one they will be auctioning.

There was absolutely no reason for it to be moved two hours north to a lot that sells cars. This whole thing sounds very fishy.

Wells Fargo Financial Acceptance Ripoff Update

AUTHOR: Catherine - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Wednesday, October 11, 2006

I had to call WF back several times since last post, My car was moved yesterday, (after an ok to release notice was sent.) The car is now in Fontana, CA. Fontana is 2 hours, about 160 miles away from San Diego, where I live. So to sum up. After I paid all fees To Wells Fargo Financial Acceptance, they acknowledged and confrmed reciept of payment and faxed documents then had the car moved to a different city 160 miles away. It was in a lot 10 miles away from my home. This retarded action results in the tow/storage fees going from around $325.00 to $595.00. This is a bunch of ****. It is too late to get there before closing today, and tomorrow is Thursday, they don't do redemptions on Thursday because of the general auction, the soonest I can get my car is Friday. Two more days of fees. This company is an unethical nightmare.
