On or about 9/27/10 I called WF bank to register complaint for a SuperTarget debit card charge. [Target in phone call did say they could not find this debit fee going all the way back to 9/10/10]. I placed a 'stop payment' on the charge and at the time WF said there would be a 6 mo. period for this stop pay. Today I discovered that WF put this stop pay on ALL Target debit card purchases, not the one time debit fee. They didn't define in their terminology to include in the statement 'ALL company debit charges' in my conversation that day.' (Target is charging me $500 in NSF fees, but they are being nice enough to reduce some of it.) BUT THE WELLS FARGO BANK REFUSES TO offer assist in reducing NSF fees or budge on changing their terminology. I've done stop pays numerous times over the years an NO BANK has ever done this type of 'blanket stop pay' EVER!!! SO -- fair warning to all Wells Fargo Bank users who need to do a stop payment. Is it any wonder banking industry has lost the American public's trust?

I Don't Understand..

I think you may be confusing terms up a bit, but it is really hard to tell.  Because a "Stop Payment" is meant to "stop" a check/debit from hitting the account.  If you already saw a debit card purchase that you did not recongnize you can dispute that debit and it may be "reversed".  But if you request a stop payment that is generaly put in to stop future debits.

Now, with Checks a bank can put a stop payment on a specific check number.  Debit Card purchases DO NOT have things such as a Check Number, so the only way to reference it is by the Requestor Information.  So it is possible that WF took your request for a Stop Payment as you wanted to stop all future debits as well.

But what makes less sense is if this happened only a month ago how did you not only aquire $500 in NSF(?) fees, but from Target and not WF.  Because if it is an NSF fee it would probably be around $35, so to get $500 worth you are looking at 3-4 a WEEK.
