After more than 3 years of perfect payment history, I was late for the first time. Amount - $29.00.
Wells Fargo has their collection dept. in Urbandale, Iowa. They started calling me at 8 AM sharp, then once or twice the same day. I asked one guy, "Dan", what his last name was, what number I could reach him at, and the name of his supervisor.
He said they don't give out last names, they had outgoing phones only, and that his supervisor "Chris" wasn't available.
After researching the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act, I then told the next caller that a) Saturdays and Sundays were inconvenient for me, and b) that the repeated use of the phone to annoy me was harassment, per the Act Section 806(5).
She said the Act did not apply to them and that they would continue to call me daily until I paid my $29.00.
I filed a complaint with the Federal Trade Commission.

Pay the $29 before they begin to tack on late fees, which they will and can do. It is no more than a cheap pizza dinner. The more you do not pay them, the more aggressive they will become at trying to collect this. It is $29 bucks, pay it off and work on paying whatever your full bill is. Get out of debt and this won't be an issue any longer. Credit cards is not working in your favor at the moment. Cut them up and get out of debt. It will be the best thing you can do! I've been in your shoes, but no more. I cut the credit cards up, paid them off and I'm out of debt except my house. Now I can go out to eat without worrying if I can pay for it. If you really think about it, how smart is it to finance your pizza dinner or a pair of shoes?
You are lucky they only began calling you at 8. Those are the laws, but many companies break that. I know of companies that will call before 7am. So, before their tatics begin to get worse pay this off and let it be a distance memory. Good luck in getting this out of your life for good!

The Fair Debt Collection Practices Act(FDCPA) applies ONLY to 3rd party collection agencies. Wells Fargo is considered an Original Creditor and is not bound by it. In fact with the exception of a couple of States(CA and I believe NY) that extend similar protections in the FDCPA for Original Creditors there is nothing that they are doing that is illegal.
While you do not want to hear this, I would highly recommend that you pay the $29 you owe if at all possible, especially if you are not 30 days late yet. Because a negative mark on your credit can cause you additional issues.
