I have been making regular payments on a 1500. credit card balance with Well Fargo "Financial" Services for almost 1 year. Until Nov. 2008 when I fell behind on payments. I made an attempt to settle this year for around the amount I borrowed. Stupid me- I made a payment under the condition that we would settle for a specific amount via telephone (verbal agreement). Yes, when I called back one month later to pay the full balance we agreed to, they said I owed them over 2000. I calmly asked the girl on the phone "Mandy" what her last name was and the name of her supervisor, and to connect me to her supervisor. She said that she was no going to give me her last name or the name of her supervisor but she did forward my call to someone else named Mr. Smith and who was not available of course. I left him a voicemail explaining what happened and Mandy's comment to me that she was "not interested in helping me find out what happened". I was completely calm and professional the entire time and this is how I get treated.
In addition to this, harrassing phone calls at work and home are non stop.
When I made my last payment I went well out of my way and spoke to 3 different people to cofirm that after this payment i will owe x number of dollars. Apparently, all 3 of them lied to me just to collect a payment.
I was willing to pay the full amount when I called and settle the debt honestly, but since they treated me so terribly (even with money to pay it off) I decided to give them the finger and pay off another credit card.
If you make payments or agree to something, you better get it in writing! Email, fax, or letter. Because they will lie to you in a heartbeat just to get a measly 100. payment. They want you to pay on late fees and interest your whole life and they want to harrass you until you die.
I also recieved one voicemail with the famous "breathing sound". Yes, I really did.... how crazy is that.
