Looks like this scam is hitting Oregon now, since I just got the letter today and the report immediately before mine is from a town 50 miles up the road.  West Bay Acquisitions is claiming I owe $19.99 on a video rented on 4/27/2009.   This is a fraudulent charge with no supporting detail. 

From what I can see all over the internet, this is either a scam run by West Bay Acquisitions, or Hollywood Video doctored their books before going out of business to make their accounts receivable appear higher than they were (in which case, West Bay was scammed into buying the proceeds of the supposed outstanding debt).   Whatever... in any case, I do not owe this money.

I'll be filing reports with the FTC, the BBB, and the Rhode Island and Oregon Attorney Generals.

WEST BAY ACQUISITIONS LLC west-bay-acquisitions-llc-in-cranston-ri West Bay Acquisitions is a SCAM. They place negative collection information on your credit report and try to get you to pay. They purport to be collecting debts for Hollywood Video. I have never done business with HV, never even heard of them. Curiosity made me call West Bay at the number on their website. Jose couldn't tell me what the $45 supposedly bad debt was for. Check their website, it's just one page...how to PAY. I reported West Bay to the Federal Trade Commission, the Better Business Bureau and the NH & RI State Attorney General's office. Hopefully someone will investigate them. Cranston Rhode Island
