In May of 2006, I purcahsed a used vehicle directly from the Toyota dealership. 5 months later my battery dies, the main drive belt is super cracked, and all of the tires are worn, with only 5 months of me having this vehicle. I've tried calling toyota customer service directly but this was no help, all they did was tell me to go to the dealership direclty. I did do that and the manage is either never there or too busy to return any phone calls.
Then I find out from a representative at Toyota that this vehicle has had problems even before I bought it, they have it on file that it was in for service. Which no one decided to tell me. In general dealing with these people has just been a terrible experience.

Karen,
You never mentioned what year and model car you bought or how many miles it had on it. You should also tell us if it was sold "as-is" or if it had some sort of warranty.
After all, you DID by a used car. The only rip off would be if they promised you something they did not deliver.
FYI..They had no obligation to tell you anything about the car or the service history. That is irrelevant. And the fact that it was in for service/repairs means the last owner actually took care of things! Anyone who takes a car to a dealership for service is not worried about spending on repairs.

All the items you describe are regular maintenance items that must be checked and changed regularly. This is a USED car after all, meaning someone else wore it out and dumped it.
