I bought a 2002 VW Jetta, used, so of cource I wanted to get the best extended warranty right???? I bought the Gold warranty from Western General one of their most expensive plans. The vehicle was being driven and just shut down on the road and gave no indication what was wrong with it.

So I have it towed to the mechanic the next day 5/29/08. Turns out that the head cracked and the vehicle needs a new engine because there is damage to the cylider walls. The mechanic said the car would need a new engine, and just replacing the head would not get the vehicle running again. So of cource I send it through to Western General.

Western General has offered to pay to have a new head gasket put on the vehicle...NOT THE PROBLEM... the car needs a new engine. Now this is their cop out..they are stating that the head gasket broke causing the vehcile to overheat, mind you the vehicle gave no indications that there was a problem before it shut down, and was driven to such extream heat that the pistons melted, which thay are stating is what cause all the other damage.

I have tried to settle by making a complaint with the BBB, however they have now falsifed statements made by the mechanic stating that he has agreed with them that the car was overheated. I spoke to the mechanic since he had told me earlier that he did not know the cause of the damage, he stated that he had never agreed with Western General on the caus of the Damage although they had made several attempts to get him to do so.

The mechanic has also confirmed that the pistons are not melted there is damage to the cylinder walls, but it would be impossible to tell when that damage was caused. Now just for fun lets say that the reason the car needs an engine is because their covered part, the head gasket, broke and caused the head to crack which drains the water into engine causing the damage, their covered part is what caused the damage are not responsible for now ALL the damage.

This company has submitted flalse statements to the Better Bussiness Burea, do you really want to trust them. I have now been out of a vehicle for an entire month, what a waste of money.

An independent inspector looked at your vehicle and confirmed the damage to your engine was caused by severe overheating. Your repair facility agreed with these findings at the time of the inspection. The physical evidence showed the engine was operated for an extensive period of time in a severely overheated condition, causing the head to crack and warp beyond repair, damage the cylinder walls and melt the pistons. There is no other explanation for the severe damage to your engine. The Service Contract covered the head gasket, axle and rental in the amount of $1,192.70, but does not cover the damage caused by the driver's continued operation of the vehicle after it overheated.
