In September of 2008 I responded to a job ad in the Chicago Tribune Career Builder section for a position as a Personal Assistant. I was contacted by someone who said they were interviewing me for the position, during the conversation the individual asked if I had considered continuing my education. I had often thought of getting my degree, so my response was yes. After answering yes, I was immediately connected by that individual to a very smooth talking representative of Westwood College, Shannon Hughes. Wow, how did that happen. Here I am looking for a job and before I know it I am connected to a college recruiter. As I discussed my interest in a Graphic Arts with Ms. Hughes she explained how , if I attended Westwood College, I could take courses that would enable me to get into the business long before I would complete my degree, because I could take the courses needed to gain the knowledge required. After enrolling and begining to take classes I found that I could not take the classes that I needed to gain the knowledge required, but I would have to take English, Math, and other general education classes at a rate of 2 to 1.
After attending three terms I realized that I had been lied to, and that this is not what I was told I could expect. I have since dropped out and now owe Westwood over six thousand dollars ($6000.00). I am 53 years old and lost my job as have many others, I was looking for a solution to my situation and all I got was more debt and I feel that I was taken advantage of and lied to. I hope that someone will do something about "For Profit" colleges such as Westwood so others like myself are not RIPPED OFF. Watch for Westwood's commercial which is now being broadcast where the student states exactly what I was told, "I can take the classes that I want". BS

My name is Michael Harrall and I am a graduate of Westwood College Online. My college adviser was Ms. Hughes and she was there for me my entire degree program at Westwood. She by no means ever misdirected me or led me down the wrong path, I actually referred 3 other students to her and we were all VERY happy with her. I refered 2 fellow coworkers and family member. She has been with the college for a very long time, and we actually still keep in touch! If you are lucky enough to get her as your admissions rep/college advisor, you will be very well taken care of. She does not lie to students! All the expectations she set for us up front were all TRUE and the way things really are once you become a student there! We were totally upset when we saw this report with her name on it!
In regards to this orginal report, this is comletely untrue. If you look at Westwood's course catalog and curriculum you will actually see that almost 70% of the curriculum is in the major field of student. For example: I graduated with my BA degree in Information Systems Security. Almost 70% of my classes where in my major technology and computer classes. The course catalog is right there on the website at www.westwoodonline.edu for you to see the full run down of the courses in each degree. You will notice that the majority of courses are in fact in whatever your degree is - graphic arts/web design/computer networking, etc... Westwood is in fact an accredited college so yes you do have to take some general education classes, but only about 30% of your classes are english/math/etc... These are classes you have to take at all accredited colleges such as Westwood.
I had an outstanding experience with Westwood and am proud to say that i graduated from there. My friends/family that I refered have also already graduated or are about to! I got an awesome job and am now making almost $65,000 per year!!!!
