Well im lounging at home and decide I should maybe use my Gi-bill, so I sign up for an info package. BAM next day I get a call, after and hour or so of chatting I sign up for game software development with Westwood online Denver north. I'm young and ignorant. Everything sounded great; I "didn't need any pre-requirements, just a decent computer/internet setup". They kept calling me 2-3 times a day about getting loans started, so I go with the flow. Next few phone calls to get the gi-bill going (which I thought should have been done first, and i've always been told its 100% tuition so why would i need a private loan?) anyways we get that going too.
Another call I'm supposed to do a "letter of intent"... my thought was "well, i give you money to educate me" so I didn't do the letter, they didn't even care. I didn't have a W-2 they didn't care. Everything was waved. I didn't think much of it, but everything I couldn't provide was waved. Now its time for my class game software development to start which ends up being 2 classes, success strategies & computer applications. I'm thinking what the hell is this? So I call him and ask why im in success strategies, he says it's something everyone has to do (any1 else get the same thing?), I understand how computer apps applies to software development so no questions there.
Every call I get I try to be nice and ask about how these classes work into what I signed up for, only to get run around. Why am I paying for a success strategies class? I can do that on my own. Even the computer apps class is just creating a different word documents and messing with all the tools I imply my wish drop success strategies, im told I have to do it, Im never told what anything costs either, ive asked almost every phone call they ballpark it $15,000 they say.
So I start Google searching... I find ripoffreport.com read pretty much every post on westwood and now I feel vulnerable, I'm obviously not in control. Should I withdraw from school, cancel loans, return unopened books? I'm only 12 days into school and haven't even logged into my success strategies class and don't plan to. Also is it time I become a jackass like the rest of the world to get things done?

If that is your real name...
How are your numbers this month? Anybody running around ringing any bells for you?
Your BS about the GI Bill is exactly that, a load of BS.
They recruited you like the Army did? That's certainly a bad analogy. Anybody who has REALLY been in the Army knows that recruiters fill your head with a bunch of lies to get you to join (sound familiar).
Hey so where can everybody reach you if they want to sign up for a sham degree? Go ahead and give us your extension... Maybe you WILL meet your goal this month (You should really put more effort into not making yourself sound like a Westwood employee next time).

My suggestion is to avoid "For Profit" schools. Read "Accreditation" and ask yourself, do you want (in my opinion) a mostly worthless degree?
You can probably still get out if you haven't attended classes yet. Use that free money and go to a real college. You'll get a better education, a regionally accredited degree (I'm assuming you want a job in the states as well as an over seas option), and transferable credits.
Also, look up the word shill.

I have been a student at Westwood College for two semesters now. I am in the military also. I took the Success Strategies course. I took a semester off, but at the end of this semester I will be going back to Westwood College. I had a wonderful advisor who was helpful to me in every way she possibly could be. She kept me on the ball to get into school on time. They set you up for a private loan because the GI Bill does not kick in the same semester. I know because otherwise they would've wanted money up front from me. And the Army pays back the loan. They recruited me just like the Army did (meaning in the end it is my choice).
I discovered as much as I could about the college before I attended. Look any college is going to be the same. You get basically the same college classes and most schools require you to take basic courses. Success Strategies was actually a pretty interesting course. I'm sorry that you did not at least take a look into it. I think that I can use some of the things I learned there in order to get ahead in any career. I just want to ask you (please do not take offense), but did you read through your course list before actually signing up? They have that available to you. You can call at anytime to request a catalogue or ask where to find it online.
I do not mean to offend you or anyone else who might have posted reports about Westwood College/Online. I am just stating my opinion and my experience with this college in comparison to other colleges. Please read this rebuttal and think about what might be best for you. The degree you will earn from Westwood College will have the same merit as anywhere else. I got waived for things when applying at a university and other colleges. I was accepted at many other institutions and I chose Westwood because it was more right for me. It's your choice.

Its called a Degree my friend. For Westwood to offer a Bachelor's Degree there are certain classes we must offer. I'm sorry we can't just give you whatever classes you want and still give you a Degree. We have programs built a certain way for a reason, and success trategies is a class that we are required to have in our curriculum. ALL students must take it unless they have transfer credit, same goes for Computer Applications. If you don't take Success Strategies, you don't graduate...it's pretty simple. I understand that you may not want to take the classes, and feel like you understand the course material...But we can't very well put that on your transcript now can we? I am sure the Department of Education would be just fine with "Istudent said he understands how to do it" credits on our transcripts.
Plenty of students go on to have succesful jobs after finishing their degree, but if you refuse to take the first two classes you will never make it to the end. For some reason people assume because we "require" certain things that we are ripping them off, when in reality we are required by the Department of Education to follow pretty strict guidelines since we are a for profit school. Any degree you obtain almost anywhere will have classes that do not pertain directly the Carrer Major portion of your degree, that is th enature of a Bachelor's Degree, instead of a certification.
