In 2005 we financed a vehicle from WFS/Wachovia with my grandma as the co-signer. Every time I was a few days late with my payment Christine would first call me threatening me and then she would call and threaten to take my 86-year-old grandma's house away from her if a payment wasn't sent. Every time this woman called she was rude, threatening, and I believe she went above and beyond what bill collectors are allowed to do.

For example, she would call my house up to 10-times a day and leave threatening messages and then when I wouldn't answer she would call and start threatening my grandma. My grandma fell for this womans threats everytime and would send in a payment, afraid she was going to loose her home.

After having nothing but problems with the vehicle I asked Christine to come and take it because I did not want to continue to pay for something that keeps breaking down. We had already dumped more money into the vehicle than what it was worth and we owed more than it was worth. We where loosing all the way around and just wanted to have the vehicle repossessed.

Christine would not come and get the vehicle and instead starting call and threatening my grandma again until my grandma made me keep the vehicle because she was afraid she was going to be homeless. This woman has been nothing but rude from day one and then to sit there and threaten an 86-year old woman with being homeless is just way to far! Someone needs to do something about the harrassment that this woman dishes out!

#2 UPDATE EX-employee responds

You cant blame a finance company for a lemon

AUTHOR: Alicia - (U.S.A.)

I am sorry you ave had problem with your vehicle but you can not blame a loan company for buying a defective car.
They didn't sell the car they financed it for you.
When a company can not get you to pay they will go after the cosigner of the note. You need to file a grievance against the dealership not WFS.
I worked in their collections plus have had loans thru them and I find it unusual that you have a collector talking in that fashion to you.
All calls are recorded and that is not their policy but after so many days they can and will pick up the vehicle, sell it at auction and you and your cosigner will have to pay the balance, thats just the facts.
I would suggest you try to get recourse from where you purchased the vehicle or pay the bill. Your can both send in certified letters stating you do not want any contact by phone from the company as well and the calls should stop.
Good Luck with this.

Fair Debt Collection Practice

There is a law that provides protection to consumers against abuse by bill collectors. Please see: ftc.gov/os/statutes/fdcpa/fdcpact.htm for the complete law, however in a nut shell, there are limits as to how many times the collector can call and what hours they are allowed to call.

As for the threats to your grandmother, unless she used her house for collateral she will not loose her house if you default on the loan.

Sounds like you got a lemon. You may just want to sell it, pay off the loan completely and be done with that company.

(I was a collector for several years for a local bank here in spokane)

Good luck,
Lora
