I bought a new kitchens worth of appliances in 2007.   After  my  Sears warranty lapsed, I responded to a mailer for more warranty protection.  I called and had them add in my fridge and washing machine.  They say there is a 60 day waiting period since it was now "out of warranty" and that the paperwork is mailed to you  4 -6 weeks later.  Well I got busy and didn't notice that the paperwork never arrived.  * months later I received a solicitation email for my fridge. I thought it was a renewal letter so when I called and was notified that I had no coverage on the fridge or washer, but had a 5 year warranty of my dryer I was shocked.  Dryers never break and are inexpensive to fix. I NEVER buy warranties for my dryers.  I told them this was a mistake and I was happy that I was calling to renew and didn't need repair.  I can't imagine how angry I would have been with a broken fridge and not had the coverage I thought I did.  Whirlpool said they for some reason couldn't find the recoding of the call even though it was only 8 months ago.  So no paperwork, no call recording, just shafting me onto a high profit margin high commission warranty plan! And then the said that they couldn't waive the 60 day waiting period to sign up for a new fridge and washing machine plan.  I was so outraged I called Sears and they were SO MUCH LESS EXPENSIVE!  AND NICE!   Just thought I might be of assistance so no one else gets shafted by whirlpool extended warranties.
