Months ago when we moved from Red Deer to Edmonton, Williams damaged our 2 couches. The repair that was attempted was substandard and I indicated that we would not accept it. It looked like big globs of black hot glue on the front of our couch. The second couch is probably damaged beyond repair. After getting the run-around from Rob Dean, the claims adjustor, he finally mailed us a letter stating that we would get $200 for both couches. These are nearly brand new pieces of furniture in excellent condition. I would like these to be repaired to the state they were in when Williams picked them up or have them replaced. I paid $6249.42 for the move and am left with damaged furniture and unanswered phone calls. I could have moved myself and wrecked my stuff for a lot cheaper, even free.
I would use any other moving company just to avoid having to deal with Rob Dean. I am also interested in any options I may have available, including seeking civil court action.

Valuation?

What type of valuation did you sign up for in your contract? If you all you decided on was the minimum ($0.60 per pound valuation), then about $200 would be all that you're entitled to. If you purchased Full Replacement Value, you would be entitled to a lot more than $200.
Insofar as it relates to further action, the laws in Canada may be different than in the US. If this were a US move, you would not be able to sue the mover for any negligence over and above the amount of the valuation because of limited liability movers have under US law. I would contact a barrister and have him advise you on what your options are under Canadian law.
