Walpoff and Abramson started harassing me years ago. Unfortunately, I didn't know half as much as I know now about my consumer rights, PA Statue of Limitation and Fair Credit reporting.
I had an original account with Providian for approx. 500.00 back in 2001. Palisades (owned by W&A) purchased my Providian acct. some years ago and then the dreadful WALPOFF AND Abramson took over.
Not understanding my rights, I would just ignore their calls.
I have reason to believe that they sent me fraudulent information pertaining to a supposed judgment that they have against me, but I never received the hearing notice. I only received a letter from them stating that a judgment was placed against me and the fees attached to such judgment.
Well recently, I tried to pay all of my debts that were truly mine. (in an attempt to improve my credit score) Not knowing that debts over 4 yrs old had met their Stat. of Limit. in PA, I agreed to pay W&A 1000.00 b/c they claimed to have a judgment against me. Not only did I not ask for a debt Validation letter, I paid some 1,000.00 of a 3,000.00 debt that was originally ONLY 500.00.
After doing a Google search on W&A I learned that they are a bottom feeder Debt collection agency with very little scruples and they won't hesitate to break the law.
They still continuously harass me over the phone. Do I have a leg to stand on? I mean now that I've sent them $1,000.00 under false pretenses, am I liable for paying them another 2,000.00 just to go away! They even lie and say that they can garnish my wages but I already know that PA doesnt allow garnishments from Debt Collectors!! They are Horrible, horrible people! Ive read that they have been successfully sued in other states. The more I read on line about these bottom feeder debt collectors the more I learn how ruthless they are.

There are some on-line legal sites in a forum context .
On some of those sites I have read the the " bottom feeders " as you state often obtain person service in not so moral ways .
One suggestion is to obtain a copy of affidavit of service and if they swore you in any way that it not possible , you might have a chance to make a motion to vacate the judgment , and sue for the return of your money .
I have also been sent letters of collection from a CC Co. that A & W apparently represented , so they say .
I had previously had the CC's information removed from the CRAs .
Upon A & W taking on the collections , they had it put back in the CRAs with an extended end date ( 7 yrs. on CRs ) .
I had gone through my OAG , and when I called the OAG , the did not have my records of disputes ( complaints ) . They may have sent me the originals , and since at fist the CRAs had removed the info. I thew out my thick proofs of documents . So, there is the reports again back in the CRAs , and yes they are devious .
